Norbie!

Norbie, I was wondering how much your conversion has cost you.
Not counting the front cut, or that huge intercooler. How much has it cost you to get the engine in, how long has it taken (I realise your wiring isn't done), and do you think it's worth it?
I was thinking the 1jz conversion would be relatively simple ... but after reading about your custom crossmember etc etc, maybe there's a lot more to it than I thought.
Plus, how long do you expect that 5 speed to last behind the power of a 2JZ-GTE? 'cause if that's a viable alternative, I might consider it instead of the 1JZ (as I have access to a couple of 2JZ-GE bellhousings & gearboxes)

Physically installing the engine has cost very little - fortunately I have some friends with mad welding skillz. Apart from the new crossmember brackets, all that's required is Landcruiser rubber mounts which cost $80 brand new from memory. And if you're using the 2JZ-GE box, the whole lot will bolt in once you've got that sorted. Check my web site for details, I have a price list up there now.
I really don't know how long the W58 is going to last behind a 2JZ, but how you drive it will make a big difference. For example, drag racing will kill it in no time (high rpm launches are the best way to snap input shafts etc). If you drive it smoothly and don't abuse it, I reckon it will hold up OK. The clutch used will also have a significant impact - for example, a brass-button race clutch is very harsh on the drivetrain. That's why I'm going to use a conventional full face clutch with lots of clamp pressure.

and why are youputting a 2jz in your supra if you dont plan on giving it at least a few high rpm launches?

There's more to life than drag racing my friend.

notice the "few"... Who could resist seeing what it's capable of? (except, I guess, for the ever present fear of making gearbox soup).
I'd also be worried about simply flooring it in any gear... that would be sure to put some decent pressure on the box

Gearboxes almost always let go on harsh gearchanges or high-rpm launches. Once it's in gear you're much more likely to break traction than break gearsets.

And then breaking of traction takes some more of the shock from the drivetrain
