reverse light/jerks/defogger Thu, 24 June 2004 04:26 Go to next message
kay...my sprinter reverse light is not working after my engine conversion was done...gearbox reverse wire connected (checked by simon), bulb is not blown (checked by me), so the only thing i can think of is the fuse...does anyone knows where is the reverse light fuse located (if there's any)...i checked at the driver's right side panel..there's a bunch of fuse there....no fuse is blown...but i dont know what's the DOME fuse is for..

2nd, u notice how when you give a slight step on throttle and try to keep it at 60km/h cruise...and sometimes you tend to go faster...so you release your throttle to get it back at 60km/h (in 3rd or 4th gear)...i notice everytime i let go or give a mild step on the throttle...the engine isnt smooth..(hard to describe with words)...its like a dumb ass trying to drive the car which is so not smooth...i believe its not my driving style..so i'm just wondering what might be causing this problem..maybe different fuel pump/heavy duty clutch? i dont know..i'm getting quite irritated with the sudden jerk (maybe too powerful? Rolling Eyes )...cause even my gf thinks that i'm not driving properly...dayum!

3rd..my rear defog thingy is not working since i ever got my car... the defogger light is switch on but lines never get heated up...so is there a fuse for this as well or how do i check it ?

your inputs from experience is appreciated..

the plug for the reverse switch isnt the best and the wires can come lose in the terminals

its a bitch to get to, it usually sits up in between the top of the gearbox and the body so its hard to get hands in while the box is in.

jump under the car with some wires and a test light and re-rout it and see if its the plug thats causing u grief. If it is a rewire should fix it.

im going to have to do this exact thing this weekend for my RA40.

The dome fuse is for the interior light.

The jerking you're describing could be because of a stuffed engine mount.

if i'm not mistaken the engine mount is not stuffed cause if it is...i would have change it few weeks back during the conversion..

any more inputs? those who has 4ag 100kw on their sprinters...do u face the same prob as i do? everytime i give it a light push on the throttle (less than 5000rpm or normal cruise)...it gives me a jerk..and when i let go..it does the same... so uncomfortable.. Crying or Very Sad Crying or Very Sad

I'd say it could be engine mounts, gbox mounts, excessive freeplay in the diff, stuffed uni joints.

lmaso you'reall wrong, none of the mounts are stuffed, thats just the way this motor behaves in the 1500 rpm range with LIGHT throttleload, beats me why but its a ECU thing.

learn to live with it like i did, or cruse at a faster speed or change down a gear.

I find that it t50 ratios are a bit of pain when trying to stick to 60km/h. Revs are little too high for third, and car is loud, and in 4th the car is clagging, especially going up hills Sad Oh well can't really complain though.

About you rear demister satoshi, check that the wires are connected up ok to the switch. From memory these could be removed from the switch itself? Possibly these could have been knocked? (not too sure).

Also check you have the defogger relay installed and a bulb in the switch (didnt have either when I got my car).

the defogger switch is alright..its connected and the light is switch on when its 'ON'...the wire behind is connected to the rear window...but maybe i should use a test light to check the the rear wires?

there's a fuse compartment under the driver's right leg...and the diagram said something like Defogger C.B...i am wondering what is that. Here's a lil picture to assist us..there's another fuse for CIG..what is that? and it also stated C.B is located at behind assist kick panel..is that the passanger's side? and wtf is C.B?

thanks

There is some good info on the fuse boxes in the Sprinter here

http://www.dorikaze.com/showthread.php?s=5c13e7b6d 24a23ab4bd66efa41e0be1e&t=1020

and here

http://dorikaze.com/showthread.php?t=1204

It doesn't seem to say anything about the window de-fogger though.

Cheers,
Dan

C.B. stands for circuit breaker.
Get a test light and check for power and earth at the rear window. If one is not present check for broken wires going into the hatch.
