Oversized 4AC Carbys

Hey,
I need a new carby for my 4AC, and one of my mates said some stuff about getting an oversized carby so it will suck more fuel down and increase performance.
Is he talking shit, or are these things available(if so where from),and do they work as he has told me?
I realise if they are around that it wont make a big difference in performance, but some is better than none!
Thanks to anyone that can help me out with this.

to be blunt he's talking shit
if the carb is already supplying enough air, with the correct amount of fuel... it will make no difference except possibly worse everywhere except WOT..
if the carby is undersized, then a carby with larger throats can help allow the engine to suck in more air IF, and only IF, the engine needs more air..
if the carb is not the restriction......
what you might want to do is look to some of the early euro cars with downdraft Webers... early 70's FIAT's come to mind..
aiui, webers have better atomisation than Aisan's, so it may help a bit... don't go overboard on size tho...
another option might be the falcon 32/36.....
but as always, if you don't know why you need it, you probably don't.
Cya, Stewart
ps, whatever carb you get will have to be re-jetted. this can be an expensive exercise if you don't know what you are doing... at $5-10 each, the cost of jest quickly adds up..

remove the EGR on your 4ac and all the vacuum shite. This should help more than an oversized carby.

The Falcon weber is a 34ADM and way to big ...dont even consider that one its a 6cyl application.
A 32/36 weber off a ford escort/cortina downdraft is the best conversion without overdoing it ... should set you back around $550 for a reco unit fitted.

Beat me to it.... I was going to suggest an Esky/Corty Weber. Too bad... I had about 4 of them sitting 'round and chucked 'em!
Save up and put a 4AGE in it.

actually on a stock 4ac these would both probably go like shit at low rpm. they're big carbs designed for >2L engines, and won't have the low down throttle response of the original type carb, it will take a few revs (2500?) before you get decent power. that being said, they'll definately improve power up high, if you get them tuned and jetted properly they won't be too bad down low either
and yes, you can use a 34ADM on a 4ac, hell one of the guys on oldcorollas has one on a cammed 4K and it cracks, bit doughy down low but anything bigger on a 1300 is going to be like that, but i digress
