Is this serious?

Hey, my sv21 seems to be going through a bit of coolant of late, also im finding some dried up white residue on the engine block, under the exhaust manifold which leads me to belive coolant is leaking through the head gasket??
Also when i push the throttle hard i get some black soot out the exhaust, and i seem to be running low on oil sometimes.
The car's engine is a 3s-fe and has done 207,000 kms, are these things indicators of something serious about to happen to the engine, if so should i get it looked at now, or wait untill something goes wrong?

It could be serious
Black soot is probably not such an issue.
207,000kms is a fair few kilometers so I'd expect the engine to start going kooky if it hasn't been regularly/properly serviced from the day it left the factory.

Points 1,2,4 could all be BHG related
Point 3 is most likely just condensation blowing out of your exhaust and bringing some carbon with it.
Depends when it happens though... what I have said would be true for when you've just started the car first thing in the morning
Points 1,2,4,5 tell me you're probably going to need to do some work sometime soon so maybe this will be a good opportunity to install a 3SGTE

Yeah but i think the auto gear box wouldn't be able to take the power, at which point it would probably be cheaper to buy a better car

Hmm... You'll probably find that it will take the power of a 3SGTE... only two ways to find out:
1) Find someone else who's done it
2) Install the engine and if the gearbox breaks it couldn't handle it

Can probably pick up a half cut 3S-GTE (1st gen) for near to $2000 from an importer...of course, 2nd gen are easier to come by but usually more expensive.

If i was to do a convesion i would be more inclined to get a st-162/184 first, because it would be easier refine the handling.
Still its worth considering.
