Well thats me, Im interested in importing a levin, im not interested in it being a black and white (panda) or even a trueno. I just want one set up to drift in decent condition. If there is anyone here that knows someone who will import one for me that would be much appreciated,
Im in melbourne, sileightly has already sujested importbitz, and im not going to pay j-spec or any other major imported 13k for the car, im up for a reasonable price of around 9-10 (what they are actually worth not what takumi says they are worth ).

a pristine ae86 sells in japan for around $25000 AUD so i think you need to rethink your value judgement on them
but your choices in ae86 makes things easy
being a levin makes it cheaper
also not being panda makes it cheaper again
so you should get a fairly decent example for around 10k but beware of rust and chassis damage with ae86s of this pricerange.
also you wont be getting anything *fantasic* for your budget. the really good ae86 levins tend to sell for around 450,000 - 500,000 yen with nice paint, fresh solid chassis and good solid NEW modification parts.
i used j-spec in melb($1000 flat fee) and my car cost me $13000 landed, complied + onroad, which was a 'bargain'! but since your adamant not to use them maybe look at another import broker.
keep in mind jspec have actually imported ae86's before and know where to look for good examples.
have a look at yahoo to give you an idea on some starting prices for cars in japan

if you aren't really concerned about 'heritage' and really want a nice solid car, go for an ae86 shitbox from japan and a auspec shell.
they can be bought for about 5k AUD (thrashed up trueno APEX coupe).. This one would have quite a few drift mods too. Chances are, it would be slightly smashed, but thats beside the point.
Buy a nice aus spec (4k would get you a pretty good one) and TRANSPLANT *everything* bolt for bolt.
In the end, it would be equivalent to the 25k japan minter, and at half the price.
This would be a good platform to start modding.
Doing your own 4age transplant to the high quality of OEM toyota ones is pretty tricky. Thats the reason why this is a good move. Plus you get all the rare shit like T series rear, tacho gage, JDM interior, LSD, and all the bits and bobs in the engine bay. You may even get some JDM rims too (watanabes, hayashis, SSR).
On top of that, piff the trueno nose for 1.5k+ hahaha
rock on.
