hey, i am currently rebuilding a 5K engine. when finished it will go into my '75 ke30. i plan to do a full rebuild with mods, like head port/polish, cam, piston rings etc. if anyone knows what would make this engine pull harder please let me know. thanks.

I used to have a 5k that replaced the 4k in my old rolla. Did I notice a difference? Nope. Still gutless, and actually turned out to be a weaker engine. But that's just my experience.
The only thing that would make it pull harder would be to replace the alpha-numeric 5k with 4age, (and maybe even a Z in there).

with standard carb cams compression exhaust mods, they can go quite well. but of course will never be a 4AG. my 4K does nicely, around 100hp @8000rpm and very streetable.
4KE and 5K heads have same chamber volume, so stick with 5K head, shaved, clean up the combustion chamber and unshroud valves. open up the exhaust ports, and take intakes to maybe 30+mm diameter (don't quote me on port wall thicknes tho )
make tuned extractors, get a nice cam, maybe go to solid lifters....
just normal stuff.
