heres the deal. my sprinter has been sitting around for a good few months.. (2nd one, building it up.. gotta sell my other car first ect...)
it wont go. the battery is dead. no prob, some jumper leads should fix that... wrong. ok, so it cranks good.. but thats all it does.
check spark.. good healthy spark.
check fuel, ive got fuel (new fuel too, i put about 5 litres of NEW fuel in it yesterday) upto the filter(it pours out when i pull the line off the filter).
so what could it be? vapour lock? if so how can i prime the system?
got any other ideas? its just got the 4ac in it right now.
any ideas on what to try/trouble shoot would be great. cheers.

Pumps probably crook;-)
Tip a bit down the carb, see if it fires. Don't set yourself alight though!

I've seen amusing results of people trying this the wrong way.
pour, then move the container of petrol away

yeah.. i dont have aero start.. i put a little fuel in a spray bottle i usually use to wet down my brakes before i work on them.. and sprayed it in while my room mate cranked it... nothing.. cleaned the plugs too. didnt have too much fuel to much around with.. not sure he had the throttle open either.. id have to tell him... his mum gave him their old e class (but hes a nice guy).
thing is its a serviced car, and was is fine working order when it was parked. pain in the arse.
i wouldnt even care(i already have my small port waiting).. but it will be real hard to get it out of there not under its own power.

I love 'start ya bastard!' just for the name, but I'm a tightarse an always use petrol Don't get too stingy with it, and use some throttle too. Check the timing as well.

pour at least a 'shotglass' full down there. (30mls)
make sure it goes IN, past the throttle plate. on some carbies it can sit on top of the secondary butterfly and not go in..
If it first for 2 seconds, and stalls, put in another 30 mls..
and so on. Try rev it, as it 'clears it out', and hopefully the other fuel system will take over.. Esp if it's got a mechanical pump.
funny that I started the old 18r celica just last night wiyh the same method.

no, not "vapor lock" when its not running unless you are on Mercury.
does the accelerator pump "squirt"??? then there's no need for anything extra, and certainly not a "shotglass" worth on anything less then 400 cu.in.
what's the compression??
cam and/or ignition timing.

since its carby i recon you look down the carby and accelerate and make sure it is feeding petrol firstly.
do you get any backfire? either from carby side or exhaust, if so then timing.
also the so called healthy spark, is that from the coil lead or have you checked each spark plug as well? you may get good spark when unplug lead from dizzy but a few months of sitting and the dizzy terminals may be coroded. maybe you have checked this but i would ensure there is spark to every lead.
another thing may be dirt in cylinder. for that i just take out all spark plugs and crank it for 30sec and the compression from each cylinder will force any dirt, soot or whatever out
other than that you can just try try and try again till she kicks over. if i leave my 3T carby not started for a week she is a bitch to start. i find carbys tend to dry up quick and if you say its been a few months then she dry as and needs to be made wet

cheers all for replies.
it fired using some aero start a mate brought round. i think i just have a clogged jet( suggestion of a ex bike mechanic i work with).
it wont be timing, it hasnt been touched and ran well before it was parked. i had a look inside the dizz aswell. and the spark, i just checked no.1, pulled the lead off and earthed it.
thanks for the help

NO!!!
do not look down a carburettor on an engine that has ANY possibility of backfiring, as yours does, some might even say never look down a carburettor full stop. if it backfires up at you and you're lucky you'll get away with singed eyebrows, it only goes downhill from there, especially if it blows a stack of fuel droplets back up at your face, as carbs often do. if you must look down the carburettor, go buy a $2 mirror from a cheap shop

i meant to look down carby while not starting the car to see if fuel gets fed through.
YOU GOTTA BE CRAZY & TO LOOK WHILE TRYING TO START IT
