One of my friend's car has cold idle problem with his car also, can you guys help him out?
It's a AE86, 4AGZE, Microtech ECU, fuel system: pre-pump, surge tank, main pump.
It's just doesn't have cold idle. Is it a missing wire somewhere.
Thanks.

my microtech doesn't idle properly when it is first started, just stalls. I need to keep throttle at like 1.5-2 k revs for a few seconds and normally the computer then takes over and holds it there after that

there's a setting for "Water Temp" to "richen" the mixture on cold start-up, probably the first thing to check..

that explains why mine's idling at 1250rpm and I can't find a solution!
but which aftermarket computer can control idle? (coz you can't control the air flow electronically right?)

I cannot remember if the 4AGZE uses a stepper motor for idle control but as just about every other Toyota engine does then it's likely. To my knowledge, Haltech is the only manufacturer to offer stepper control.
If your Microtech has a PWM output then you can use something like a Ford PWM idle valve or any number of other similiar valves found on other cars. Other than that, use one of the ON/OFF outputs to switch a vacuum solenoid based on water temp.
While aftermarket computer manufacturers would like people to believe a cold start idle valve is not required i am yet to see an engine work even close to a factory system without one.

Hi Grant, so do you know how a 4age 20v controls the idle? Coz I want to know if I could lower the idle speed on my 20v

To set the idle use the butterfly stop at normal operating temp,
Also you could use an idle control valve from something like a Nissan & have it hooked up to a switch in the cabin,& use it for cold starts then turn it off once at normal temp. WE did this on a mate's CA18det N13 pulsar it worked great

I know the butterfly stop won't work coz I've covered all 4 inlets after warm up and the idle didn't drop.. any other way to "drop" the idle?
