Diff Q and A

I recently purchased yet another RA23,
I took it for a spin last night and realised that the gearing is very short in comparison to my other RA, it sits roughly at 3500rmp at 100kph, and normally they sit around 2900rpm-3000rmp at 100kph, and I am sure it's the diff,
What is the common conversion for an 18RG/W5X?
How can I find out what sort of diff it is?,
the previous owner is also unsure.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I don't know what you mean for the 'common conversion' for a 18RG / W50 (I will assume here).
The standard T series diff in a RA23 is fine for this engine / trans combination.
Take some photo's of the diff and post them here and we can take a guess at what it may be.
To be 100% sure of what you have, slip each axle out, pop off the tailshaft and unbolt the diff. Count the teeth on the pinion and crown wheel, and divide bigger by smaller to get the ratio. Measure the diameter of the crown wheel as well, to get the diff series. That will tell you what you have exactly.
Cheers,
Mitch.

The axle code is printed on the build plate on the firewall (eg T292); you can determine the diff ratio from this. If you have reason to believe the diff is non-original, you'll have to jack up the back of the car and count how many times the tailshaft turns for one revolution of the wheels.
