icon12.gif  Where to buy Trueno Nose? Tue, 29 June 2004 06:16 Go to next message
Hello does anyone know a shop/importer/anyone who can sell everything needed for a Trueno front end on an AE86? How much do they go for?

Has anyone got experience doing this, what is involved and how difficult is it to do? How do you hook up the pop up lights?

Thanks!
Erik

hey bud,

Hello does anyone know a shop/importer/anyone who can sell everything needed for a Trueno front end on an AE86?

1. Importers will very very rarely bring them in as loose parts. Cost too much and not worth it. Also very hard to find in japan (that is if you don't know where to look). Most importers don't give a rats arse about 86s and don't go the extra distance. 180sx and silvia parts on the other hand, well thats different.

Sometimes if you are extremely lucky, someone might import a complete vehicle or a front cut with one, and really really hate truenos (unlikely). So they buy a levin front and have a spare trueno. If you are lucky enuff to get it like this, most are rusted and smashed.

2. Anywhere between 1000 dollars (smashed, and rusted) to $2000 (something decent off a car). $1.5 seems to be the norm. Still it'll need to get sprayed and straightened out.

3. Yes I have. I almost practically got given (thanks Mr Soopra! Smile ) a set of beat up guards. Re welded them on to some rust free levin ones. The bonnet came from garth (legend). the headlights I payed a really high amount for, considering how bent they were, and the rest I bought brand new from my toyota dealer.
I done pretty well in terms of price, but was a headache trying to source everything. I was very very lucky to know these people.

How do you hook up the pop up lights?

4. you modify the headlight loom using a relay from a RA60 poplight model, Aw11, etc... You can buy a 4 point trueno 4 point headlight switch, but can also modify the existing aus spec one.

yer.. i say fuck it, its not worth the effort

rik107: if uve got cash(u will need it for this swap anyways) why dont u buy jblood flared guards $650, jblood front bar $575, cf bonnet $900. then just source yourself some headlights $200, get it all fitted and sprayed and ur set.

i rekon its a bit of a waste of cash, just stick with the levin, they are cool

Actually I was thinking the exact same thing Arch suggested buy the pannels from hi octane racing and just get the lights from somewhere. Thanks for the replies everyone! Still considering this but..... hmmm or might stick with the Levin front...

Yes I would need those too, anyone here know where to get the lights (w/loom, motors and everything needed to run them)?

I know someone posted an ad saying that they were going to Japan and bringing back parts, rims, engines. Anyone from Sydney doing this?

Garth can you please list down the parts that I need to look for, for the conversion apart from the bonnet, side pannels and front bumper so I know what to look out for.

Thanks Everyone, and hey the S12 kind of does look like a Trueno!

650
900
200
175 (bumper bar support brackets).
----
1895

that's quite a lot.
Besides, I haven't seen anyone sell a good set of headlights for anything less than 300 bux.

Furthermore, you'll have to buy kouki corners lenses. Kouki parkers and kouki indicators.

corner lenses are.
65 x 2.
inidcators are
110 x 2
parkers are
110 x 2.
trueno grill ????

by the time you finish painting, etc you are looking at 3k! That's pretty pricey I reckon, and probably better spent on some suspension mods and LS.

Truenosedan: Can you get the whole front end? how much would that be?

Crazy legz: Thanks for the mention! I emailed bel performance just then, I've been through the site a few times b4. Their Trueno Project is looking good.

Thanks everyone, Garth. I understand all the money and trouble involved but it's just so cool! I'm a big fan of Keiichi's monster GTV Trueno that car is a beast! Well I was going to get a full respray very soon so if I ever wanted a front end conversion it should be now so it can be sprayed too.

Anyone here done the conversion? Do you seriously regret it?

... at $3,000 I would just save a little, sell my Sprinter (or is it a Levin?) and buy a JDM spec Trueno.
