Got pulled up for driving too slow Tue, 29 June 2004 13:47 Go to next message
I shit you not

I was turning into Epping Rd up at the intersection near epping boys high there and a cop car was turning from the other direction. Having noticed the cop car i didn't rip it around the corner as i usually do, just turned and accelerated up to around 65-70-ish down the dip there then slowed to 55-60 as the road changes from an 80 zone to a 60 zone.

As i turn off to head home i'm tailed and pulled up by the copper. His first words "You were driving a bit sedately there, was there any reason why?". He breath tested me and checked my license.

I asked him why he pulled me up and he said "car (mk3supra), age of driver and the speed you were driving". I then asked him if he would prefer me to be driving 90 instead of 70 and he said 'nah, we'd pull you up for that too'. Smartass.

Really great to see police resources being wasted like this, especially when my sister's car has already been vandalised three times this year.

Maybe they were waiting for you to do your usual and rip it around the corner.

Then got pissed when you didn't.

At least you won that one though.

Good call that one. You can tell he came up with that on the spot. It was a *A70, it's not like they are particularly known as cars idiots drive. It's not like it was a S13 or R32/33. (No offense to Nissan drivers who aren't idiots. I like Silvias and GTRs)

I can think, off the top of my head, of 4 legit reasons why you would be driving like that:

1) Driving the car for the first time and not used to driving sports cars.
2) Turbos need warming up.
3) Just got hit for speeding and nervous around cop cars.
4) Just blew a turbo or something similar.

I respect that the police have a job to do though. I don't want drunk drivers or stoners on the road endangering me and my loved ones. Still, would be nice if I was respected by the Police as well.

you must have misunderstood the tone of the story, as well as skipped over his comment about the mis-allocation of police resources at the end, not to mention the 1 or 2 of the others who gave support to the poor man for having 2 minutes of his life violated like that.

POLICE BRUTALITY - im calling the tribunal as we speak.

they arent gonna get away with this. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

so are you agreeing that the cops should have pulled him over for driving too slow and that there is nothing better for them to do like fight crime?

BTW I have been pulled over for going too slow one day (won't go into it). I thought it was quite funny/ironic really Smile Razz

pft
I get pulled over as well - doesn't matter what speed you're doing (although I'm usually speeding...) - young male, sports car: you expect attention from the cops *shrugs*
comes with the territory.

i beleive that if u go more than 15 under the limit {unless accelerating or turning, and only if u r hampering someone else} then u should get penalised the same as if u were speeding,

caus it is just as dangerous Smile

Must have been the same cops that pulled me over a while ago on the M2 at 4am on a Saturday night.

Was heading westbound toward the toll gates, i had the correct change and as i approached i saw a cop car going through. So i thought to myself, that i should just go slowly to avoid any contact with them (young driver/sports car/possibly digging through my car for defects)

So i payed the machine coin by coin and flat shifted very slowly, BUT for some coincidentally strange apparent reason *sarcasm* i managed to somehow sniff their trail and come within viewing distance from their rear vision mirror. I kept driving normally just below the speed limit making sure i avoided getting close - somehow i found myself up the ass of this cop car which resulted me in going in the right lane and overtaking AND at the same time they pulled over to the far left emergency lane (not even on the f*^kin road!) just to make sure i pass and as soon as i did this, the red and blue heavens shone through...

45 mins of talking and licence/records checkup (i feel asleep while they were in their car) they let me go with the only explaination of 'just doing a checkup on suspicion'

Rolling Eyes

but lesson learnt - if you are nice to them, they will be nice to you...

could it not have been that the cops realised that you saw them and then drove very cautiously(slowly) so as not to get any attention. it could be a little sus, maybe theres a reason you wouldnt want them to pull you up. ie, your carrying drugs, no liscence. drunk.. I can think of heaps, dont forget cops aint stupid they are regular people like us.

well i can say that i'm 100% clean, not drugged/drunk on probation etc etc, my licence is clean and i wasn't doing anything stupid.

Just plain and simply i did NOT want to get pulled over and waste my time, at 4am in the morning and have them digging through my car for possible defects even though my car is legit with only borderline mods. turns out i just went too slow and both of us were just watching each other and in the end i payed the ultimate price of getting pulled over, AND being checked up. Only thing that made me drive away without them searching through my car was that i was being nice Rolling Eyes

One of my friends has an 84 rolla drives like a granny and has been pulled over 4 times in a couple months since getting his P's. I have not been pulled over once in My corona driving like a tard. I was followed by cops when I first got my P's but since then have had no incidents.
