TVIS is a set of butterflies that close off one of the intake valve ports below 4500 rpm to increase air flow and fuel atomisation. They are operated by manifold vacuum

Cheers spanktown. Just one more for ya in regards to the rwd 4age large port manifold. I am looking to use one of these for a turbo conversion on a 4agze. Now does this manifold have tvis cos im of the understanding that if it didn't come with tvis then no mods are required to the intake manifold in terms of alloy welding the valleys for the turbocharging?

well the manifolds dont actually 'have' tvis... its a plate that is about just under an inch thick which goes between the intake manifold and the head. Now ive been told that if you remove the butteflies from this plate but still use the plate between the manifold and the head you dont have to weld the manifold at all.
