Virus/Spyware Protection

Anyone here know any good sites for getting pesky spyware off of your computer? I have AVG, and have run Trend Macro Housecall to no avail. I also have Spybot - Search and Destroy, Zone Alarm, Ad Aware and Hijack this, but none of them can fix the problem.
Problem being my browser is being hijacked and I am being sent to a search page that I don't wanna be at.

Yeh, i've got the same problem, McAfee doesnt work as well as Norton AntiVirus 2004.
I think you just have to re-format your computer, that'd be the easiest way

Screw that. I only just re-installed my OS 'cuz of a virus a few months ago.
I need a copy of Norton Anti-Virus. I think that will be my next purchase now.

this is what id do...
1. format HD
2. install spyware protector & virus protector before getting on the internet
this is your best bet at fixing the problem for a reasonable amount of time
im currently running, peer guardian, spy sweeper & norton anti virus 2004 professional

I would rather not format my computer.
Yeah, I have been to some tech support sites, and CWS shredder doesn't fix this problem.
No, it's not "busted for looking at pedo". When I load up IE, it generates a search page in my TEMP directory, it then re-sets my homepage to about:blank and re-directs about:blank to this page in the temp DIR. I have tried moving, deleting and changing prittymuch every value this virus even thinks about touching, to no avail. The page is just one of those search the web pages, with popups telling me "I have spyware".
I would strongly advise everyone to stay away from any kinda porn/warez sites untill someone figures out how to fix this. I'm pritty sure I got this after looking at some links from some sites listed either at Alta-vista's adult search, or some other link from this thread:
http://forums.toymods.org.au/index.php?t=msg&t h=38998&start=0&rid=4146&S=1af11735cea 3a542aebde7e221aa87e2
I have been all over the web and heaps of people are having the same "about:blank" problem and nobody seems to know how to fix it for 2000/XP. A few people have been successfull in fixing it on Windows 98, but I am having trouble with my Win 2000.
Anyone know where I can get a copy of DOS to work outside of Windows 2000? The .dll file the virus uses seems to be totaly hidden from Windows (this is how the Win98 people have fixed it).

well i would suggest a good anti virus and firewall.
Personally i got Sygate Personal Firewall & Avast Anti Virus.
Both are free and both monitor ever connection from every program that try to open a connection threw the internet.
Also the firewall monitors if a program has been modified from either a virus or if you have updated it.
Have never got a virus.

After getting this virus I went anti-virus mad. I am now running AVG anti-virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, and Spybot-SearchAndDestroy resident.

I am having the same problem - a trojan hidden in a dll file.
Try turning off the system restore, run the AVG and then reset the system restore. Failing that, start the system in safe mode go to the dll file where the trojan is hidden and delete the file.
I have been unsuccessful with deleting it but I think that this is more due to my NOT having total administrator priveleges on this computer.
Ass fucking cockheads that write these things should be circumcised with a base ball bat.

The following link is the download for the free personal firewall.
http://smb.sygate.com/support/documents/spf/spf_do wnload.htm
If you have multible antivirus's sometimes they can either crash each other trying to gain main access to the computer or think that each other is a virus so always choose the one you see best. All antivirus companies upgrade in under an hour the time a virus is found so mainly most of them detect all the same viruses so no need worrying having more then one.
Also if you have programs like Kazza some antiviruses detect some of there files as viruses so double check. Also most of the spyware.

I would update and run Spybot and Ad-aware, these are the best two programs to use for removing spyware, its all we use at work.
Failing that there may be some hidden programs installed, have a look in control panel > add remove programs for any suss programs and remove them.
Good luck in fixing the problem.

Well I managed to fix it. Anyway I would strongly advise Spybot-Search and Destroy, AVG anti-virus and Zone Alarm personal firewall. I didn't have these installed when I got infected.
