A hell of a lot more than it's worth. An MA61 is IRS, so you'd have to modify a shiteload. You'd be better to find an F-series live-axle diff from a Crown(?) or something, and then fit an MA61 LSD centre to it.

As for the specifics of a live-axle F-series diff, a search would find it fairly easily.

I put a corona MKII live axle rear end in my RA28, these share the same centres as MA61's so you can use the LSD from one of these.

IRS would be unreal but a huge job and with something like that no corners can be cut.

What he said; an F series live axle (eg Corona MkII) is the way to go if you want a stronger diff. A Hilux diff is another option but it's heavier, it has the wrong stud pattern, and it's almost certainly overkill for your application.

Everytime you dismember a Corona Mk2, God kills a kitten.

Use a Crown MS112 diff. F series, same width, bigger axles and bearings, disc brakes and common as dirt.

There are plenty of already-dismembered MkII's out there willing to donate diffs! The big advantage with the MkII diff is it has the correct 4x4.5" stud pattern for a Celica, while the Crown diff will have a 5-stud pattern.

MS112 diff is more like 1440mm wide, the MKII is 1410 or so? Thats my understanding anyway.

Not in this neck of the woods. Leave the hard to find old school stuff alone for the genuine old schoolers.

There are plenty of MS112s. Initial purchase price is the same. The cost to get either modified to fit in a Celica is the same. It might cost another $50 to get it restudded to a 4 stud.

There are 2 pluses:

  1. MS112 comes with disc brakes (and if the brakes aren't big enough, I have outlined a multitude of upgrades in multiple posts), and
  2. MS112 diff is a better diff (bigger axles and double row axle bearings).

RA28, they are the same width (roughly 1410mm as measured with a tape measure). I put an MS112 diff in my MX13.

Hehehehehehe! RA28 is 1365mm from drum to drum, RN25/27 Hilux is 1370mm drum to drum, all the live axle F series diffs are larger than that.

If you were going to install IRS on the ta23, i wouldnt bother with the suspension setup the ma61 has. I'd rather go with something much more adjustable. Semi trailing arms can be a pain.

Agreed, the MA61 setup is OK for a standard road car, but is too wide for an early celica and would require heaps of work to get it in. Better to go for a custom job and use silvia gear. Fabricate a cradle, make it structural and hang some fabricated upper and lower wishbones off it.

If you really must have disc brakes, only the Crown diff comes with them from the factory, although the others can be converted to disc with a bit of work (search if you want details). As for where and how much, pick up the phone and ask your local wrecking yards!
