are 5M-E inlet manifolds the same as 5M-GE? all i wanna know really is if the flanges that bolt to the head are the same and are mounted at about the same angle. what size ports does a 5M-GE have? 40mm?

I have a Doug Thorley header (sold by TRD) I used on '84 Supra years ago sitting in the garage. I'll take some pics and post them for you.
If I'm not mistaken all M series engines have interchangable parts. You can take a head, block, intake manifold or exhaust manifold and interchange them on 5M, 6M and 7M engines.

only twin cam parts are swapable between twin cams, ie 7mgte turbo manifold onto a 5mge, or 6mge race headers onto a 7mge etc
single cam parts are not swapable with twin cam
mteu 4me and 5me SOHC bits are generally swapable (i think)
entire heads can be swapped b/w DOHC and SOHC but this requires a LOT of work - timing covers, dizzys, crank perhaps (not sure if the woodruff key is the same accross all models) anyway you get the idea...

the reason i asked is because i'm putting 5M-GE head on a 4M, and i'm making a manifold to fit triple solex's.

There's a bit more to it than just bolting on the head.
5MGE runs a timing belt, 4M/5M/5ME runs a chain so you'll have to swap all of that over.
Depending on which 4M you plan to run, your compression ratio at best will be 8.5:1. You will increase combustion chamber capacity and decrease the swept volume.
With the 5MGE head, the distributor will not foul....only on the SOHC head does this happen.

What's the point of building a 4M/5M-GE hybrid? Just chuck a complete 5M-GE in and be done with it.

Maybe he has some class restrictions where he has to leave the original block in it? or leave it the original capacity.
Who knows...

i didn't get a whole engine 'cause i'm not a millionaire. it was much cheaper to get the head and fit it to a 4m. this way i don't have to get an engine inspection as well. i also thought about running two dizzy's, cuz i got three spares layin' round. if anybody has a 5m-ge head off an engine, could they measur the bore of the combustion cahmber please. or pics.
