Gin51e,
The 2 door corolla, was designed to have GT4 running gear from the start. So i is standard.
The whole reason for the choice of a corolla was weight as the GT4 was just too heavy in comparison to the EVO's and the WRX's.

but is it a production car? as group N is for production cars in close to standard form.
and they were talking about how they adapted the GT-4 gear into the car if they designed the corolla to run it then they wouldn't then need to "adapt it"
anyway if it wins i still class it as a celica victory

It comes under a new class call Group N(P) and is basically a watered down version or the WRC rules. This is so both the extisting manufactures and new manufactures to rally car take advantage of the rules. So don't be suprised when Suburu and Mitsubitsi start using sequential G/boxes and revised 'aero' kits next year to keep up. What's even better is the cars will be available in kit or running form for sale to the general race public, by the end of next year! A major bonus to privateers.

yeah i thought that was crazy ,if the corolla was "meant" to have GT4 running gear, then it would have it !! and i could go down to my local toyota dealer and buy one on monday ..thats the whole point of group N
so does that mean subaru can throw a B4 legacy twin turbo in the WRX and run in GP N ????? I DONT THINK SO

so they are destroying the part of Group N that makes it so good, i like the idea of them being able to do the cars up a bit more but it shouldn't affect the original group N class, i say bring back the world rally cars, just get the manufactures to stop being so tight and get a World rally subaru, mitsubishi, toyota back into the championship and leave group N for the up and coming.

According to the rules, Yes!, CAMS just has to approve it first. The rules are available in abobe format on http://www.rally.com.au, in the bulletins section. But running a Twin Turbo is really useless, when the GpN cars have air injection systems homolagated ie Zero turbo lag.

I dont think CAMS will allow this as Subaru already have a production 4WD car. The new group N(P) was designed to allow manufactures to build 4WD cars if if they dont have their own 4WD production car. The rules allow parts from Previous production cars no longer in production ie GT4 and put them into what ever they want. If toyota or any other manufacturer didnt have a 4WD drivertain they were allowed to use a EVO or WRX drivetrain and engine.
Hope this clarifies anything.

Sorry I've only had a quick look, for 4WD a manufacturer can nominate an engine and Gearbox combo from an Homologated Gp N car, or an engine from there range and gearbox from else where, or the engine from else where and the g/box from their range... Reading the 2WD drive section, anything goes!! Whoa Who!! I could still get my 20V head and 1.8 bottom, Think I better make that a 2.0L!!

Neil Bates car uses a SE125 Corolla FWD chassis, they have extensively braced and modified the chassis, it was over 3 months full time work...including new tunnel new rear end, roll cage etc...it uses ST205 motor and running gear, with dog gearset AFAIK. First even is rally of melbourne on 22nd september.
