another BOV question Fri, 02 July 2004 10:38 Go to next message
im in SYD and have started to hear things about people getting fines for loud BOVs. anyone know anything bout this?

apparently they are like sound systems and are 'noise pollution'. i dont know anyone personally thats this has happened to, but a friend of a friend said it happened to him.

could this be true or do you guys recon the cops just had it in for him?

an atmo venting BOV is a deffect so you can be fined for noise polution just like a pod air filter, or even fined by the EPA cause its more than just noise polution on an AFM engine.

Atmo-venting BOV's have been a "defectable" offence for ages now. It's usually not enforced unless you happen to be doing dumb stuff at the time. This is yet another reason not to fit a big stupid wank-valve on your car.

Those wank valves make a difference when u have a large turbo and your running big boost, the old plumb back just don't cut it. But on the other hand there is no need to have a bov which is designed to make a lot of noise.

I would have thought that all that matters was the diameter of the valve not where the air is going?

Absolutely correct. You can have a big BOV if you really need it, but it doesn't need to vent to atmosphere and it doesn't need to make any noise.

It vents back into the inlet system, pre-turbo. This is how all factory BOV's work, and that's why they're quiet.
