Unfortunately most of the forum members are unlikely to be familiar with your model of car.
Perhaps it might be of help to provide some info like what kind of engine it already has, if it is 2WD/4WD, that kind of thing.
Also, we really need to know:
* what you want to spend (put a figure on it)
* what you want to do with the car
* how much you can do yourself

Yep - what 7M brisbane said AND we will most likely try to direct you toward Toyota power - so STOP thinking about SR20's immediately.

Did a quick search around on google.. apparently they came with a 20r and L43 tranny didn't say which way it was mounted but I'ld take a guess at north south so, maybe look at converstions done to ra60's?
Hope this helps I'm sure everyone else here knows what you can do

Not exactly a ball-tearer, but I would have thought a 22RE would be a good (cheap and bolt in) conversion.
I have also heard that these things respond fairly well to turbocharging, however you may want to research this yourself.
To be honest in something like yours, though, I'd probably suggest that a CA18DET is perfect. Cheap, light, compact, powerful and easy to upgrade.

If that is a standard 18R (front sump and rear curving crossmember) I would suggest dropping in something from the 1G series family, either 1G - GE, GTE, or GZE. And that subject has been covered many times in this forum.

are you gonna use this car to go really fast or are you gonna use it as a utility? if it was my utility i wouldn't go crazy with big turbo shit(i don't mean that turbo's are shit, just that it would be a waste of time and money). go an m series engine. 5m-ge would be cost effective, if you want a simple engine without efi, get a 4m.

Yeah i think the 4M, would cover all those area's like power and speed, and a good towing engine. GO THE MIGHTY 4M'S!
