the left drive shaft is the main spinner right? .
is so then it sounds like it can take the power of ur modified engine. maybe look at using different d/shafts to use or make custom ones. my 0.02c

Suspension set up may have something to do with it dude...
You driveshafts should easily handle the HP you are giving it.

probably depends a lot on how you drive it too

You could try an MR2 gearbox with GT4 driveshafts if you feel that you are breaking them from too much power.
Note : Wheel spin generally doesn't break driveshafts, the torque and power being applied to a spinning wheel is minimal - however excessive torque might kill it (hard launches, excessive load, like full throttle 1st gear application). Also, stress on the bearing may be screwing it up due to the driveshafts' non-stock 'resting' angle.

What he said
But lowering would be putting extra compression on the shaft and joints.

I take it that the shafts off the mr2 box and the GT4 shafts are the same, cos the GT4 shafts and the MR2 turbo box shafts were different.

I meant MR2 turbo box...
For an ST162 you use the MR2 turbo box and ST165 shafts??? I have never done this so I don't know.

hmmm ST165/85 left driveshaft would fit, but only the left you can't use the right, otherwise try a camry driveshaft (are they any stronger anyone know?)
The main shaft actually sheared behind the hub net, yeah that wouldn't have to do with power though, if it was a power problem the cv would just shit itself and would spin freely, (happened to me) sounds like too much stress, are you doing the nuts up to the right torque?

Could you get custom made joints to reduce the stress on the shaft? You'd probably need custom shafts as well though...
Just drive slower if you want really low suspension???
Having looked at the ST162 shafts, they certainly aren't weak or piddly or anything. I'm not sure that ST165 shafts would be much better seeing that your problem isn't really related to torque...it's just related to the angle that everything is at.
This isn't exactly my speciality per se
Also - I'm guessing the right driveshaft from an ST165 is shorter due to the front gearbox having two diffs (is that right?)

It's unlikely a camry driveshaft would be any stronger...
I think ST184 driveshafts fit as well, but again, I doubt they are any stronger...just newer

Yeah the ST165/85 have the same length driveshaft on each side they are the same length as the left on the 162, just beefed up CV's but the shaft is the same size.
I just refer to every thing from the ST184/204 as camry stuff cause its all the same stuff, they all use the same drive shafts, the St162 are a bit different though.

mine did that on the left hand ( gt4 shaft )
same thing - castle nut fell out into my hand .. ( one week after i bought the gt4 and $700 + later to get it fixed )
looks like it was overtightened to the point of stressing the stub or metal fatigue
box one is more likely than box 2

The suspenssion was only modified in the last couple of months, and that was only the springs...
the left shaft is shorter due to the box
it has showed fatigue at the end of the thread wr the hub nut holds everything together
Thanks for the help guyz, i got another shaft... for free from a the same guy i got the other one from... hope this holds!
