same concept as a car... if its bare metal (been sand blasted) then you should use undercoat and then spray colour... if you want shiny then clear them too (not necessary)

i have found normal car paint does the job fine, i have never used high temp paint... i even done my old VT SS rims with silver glitter too... BLOODY AWSOME

we did a mates car, just get some wax and dirt cleaner, and clean them up, i would tend to fix up any dodgey rust spots, and then spray them, i don't remember if we undercoated them tho.

i painted some aluminium rims with dulux enamel spray, no undercoat, and 8 applications of paint stripper later patches of it still wont coe off. dulux spray is pretty good stuff!

i'd say undercoat them, add ur colour then a clear coat.clear coat will help seal the paint surface and make the rims less prone to chipping or flaking, and give it a shinny finish

i'd clean them up really good. use an undercoat/primer(Paint doesnt really like to stick to metal) then give it many light coats. and then add a clear coat to protect it from the brakedust.
