hi all
just wondering if there are any factory electronic distributors i could get for my 18rc. my friend is building me electronic ignition for my celica and said this would be very useful.
possiblities i have thought of were an 18rgeu dizzy (possibly hard to get hold of) or maybe a 22re dizzy.
do these simply bolt in? any other suggestions?
thanks in advance

you have three options for triggering transitorized ignition.
1. Use the points as a switch instead of a current path. Means you can keep your standard dizzy. Will require an ignitor that can use points switching as a trigger. Jaycar has a kit.
2. Find an 18rg elec. dizzy. Harder to find, but should be a direct swap in. Could use the ignitor from 18rg setup to, all swaps over.
3. Gut 18rc dizzy and put in 21rc/22re gear in it. I'm not sure how hard this is to do. I've heard of someone on here doing it. I think holes had to be redrilled?? This setup you could also take the ignitor from the donor car for ease of installation.
If I am wrong anywhere, plz let me kno.

22re dizzy guts into 18rc dizzy is very easy to do. Just gotta watch out on your springs on the buttum and remember to swap the whole shaft.

Would option 2 above not suffer from points bounce affecting the ignitor timing?

The 18rg dizzy will not fit on the single cam engine. I tried it. that is taking the whole assembly and shaft for a straight swap.

I thought the 18r-c/g both had the dizzy driven from the crank? Did they change gears or something?

They mount in different positions. The RC is on the back drivers side of the engine, driven by the crank and the RG is on the front drivers side, driven by one of the cams I think. (Might be wrong about drive but not position).

the 18rc distributor drives the oil pump that is what the little notch in the bottom is for. Both the RG and RC Dizzy drive off the centeral shaft. RGEU Electric dizzy'may not have this notch (mine doesnt) and the body is different and wont fit unless you swap the internals over.
why not do the 22re way?
