OK I like the media browser in winamp 5, but performance bites...sonique keeps crashing, don't like WMP so what do people recommend??
By the way I am at work, so Linux is not an option - otherwise I could find loads of great ones!

Nark,
The only similar thread I could find was on video players - which is not quite what I am after!

Ah. OK, I misread your post.
For Windoze, I just use Winamp. Sonique is nice, but not really stable.

Media Player Classic is included as part of the Aces Codec Pack if I remember correctly.

Am I the only one to download iTunes and really dislike it? This was iTunes for PC so I have a brilliant media program to compare it to (winamp) but still.
iTunes - 15mb+ download
Winamp - 4mb download
iTunes - 500mhz/256mb ram
winamp - 500mhz/64mb ram
iTunes - 40mb memory footprint at idle
Winamp - 15mb memory footprint at idle
iTunes - skinnable, no
Winamp - skinnable, yes
Winamp - plugins, yes
Winamp - ability to make really small, keep on top, and slip up into my title bar, yes
Winamp imho is the best music player for pc, and I'll go swinging to the grave at iTunes until it lifts its game significantly. If you don't like Winamp5 cause it uses more memory, you can always download winamp 2.91 which is only 2.something mb to download, has a memory footprint of under 8mb, has the really nice music library of winamp 3/5, rarely if ever crashes and runs on the smell of an oily electron
