knock meter for 1JZ

As the 1JZ comes with 2 knock sensors from the factory - which I won't be hooking-up to the ECU, I was thinking about a very basic little sensor. Anyone know if one exists for sale - or should I try making my own? For that matter, what are the stock knock sensors like - ie, is it worth it?
cheers,
Justin

That's a little defeatist.
There's no sure-fire way to stave off detonation, a sensible tuner is probably your best bet.
A knock sensor is an 'after the fact' device, which means that knock is already occurring. You've be nuts not to have any sensor at all - at worst you can probably do something tricky to give you a "my engine is being damaged" light

defeatist, perhaps...
but i put it to you to find a 'universal' circuit that you can hook up to any engine and get any meaningful information out of.

Thanks, guys.
I still want to have a go at rigging some sort of 'bionic ear meter' as a last-ditch fail-safe some time. But for now, I'm puting most of my faith in good tuning.
cheers,
Justin
