Can i drop into my celica (RA40) a 1G-GE (non turbo 140-160HP?) for less than $2000? How much would this conversion cost and is it dificult to find a 1G-GE engine? I am only 17 so a 1G-GTE is not worth the insurance and cost, brake upgrades etc. Also i think a 1G-GE would provide me with engough power to get me through my P's. I would realy like to see a 2.0L N/A six under my bonnet soon so halp would be great, cheers chris. P.S. Is an 18RG a better solution?

I seem to say this all the time but........check with your local registration authority to see if they will allow and 18RG (carby) in the RA40. Also check with with your insurance company if they will cover you with the mod. better to do this now rather after you've fitted the engine.
I have some pics of an RA40 fitted with an 1GGE if your interested.

Ok, i will check out whether an 18RG is legal, but ive heard alot of people put them in, so it should be ok. If i could see those pics of the 1G celica that would be great, cheers chris

The 18R-G was available in RA40's from the factory, so I can't see why it wouldn't be allowed. It's certainly fine here in Qld.

Be careful with the 18RG. Some rego inspectors let it go, while others can be a real pain. Problem is the emmision. If you get the EGR valve (I think it's call that) hooked up it should be o'kay. I've got a 18RG in mine and it goes through rego. Also if you want some more power look at some cams, valve springs and rejetting the carbies. With largish cams (292 duration or 238 AT .050") AND 430" LIFT it pushes the Ra40 along nicely (approx 160-170hp), but mine has also been ported and balanced and has extractors . Good luck
