Internally, I do not think that there are any differences.
Externally, Yes there are some minor differences, but depends on what you have done....
For example, when my 4age blew up in my AW11, I simply got a another 4age from the wreckers.... what I didn't notice is that the dizzy was different, the Throttle body was different and the Jap version was smaller (The ozi one was 65mm, whereas the Jap one was about 60mm) and there was no EGR on the Jap engine and the intake manifold. Of course, I used the Jap intake manifold with no EGR 
But if you bolt all your old external devices across, you should be OK.
