Supatool 201 piece tool chest with two draws, pretty good tools look good and haven't broken one yet and they have got a good hard workout from me having to undo extreemly tight bolts and so forth find it at k-mart less then $200 i think can't remember.

Supatool ratchets are weak. I've snapped teeth on those without even putting pipes on the end of them. I agree with mx83toy - repco tools are quality.

Ahhh, how are we Troy???

I'm buying some Repco kits soon... But firstly, what are you after??? Sockets, Spanners, etc...
I got a few prices from Repco a while ago...
1/2 drive A.F./Metric 42 piece Socket Set - $161 (RTK 103)
3/8 drive Metric 32 piece Socket Set - $149 (RTK 202)
1/4 drive A.F./Metric 27 Piece Socket Set - $60 (RTK 253)
Plus a Repco Combination Spanner Set - Havn't got a price yet...

I'm going for Repco tools as they have a lifetime warranty and they are a lot cheaper than Snap-On...

man you need around 250 to 300 just for a sidchrome socket set... they are awsome to use though but for average home use go the repco's all the way get a 1/2 and 1/4 inch rachet metric drive set, and a spanner set may cost you more than 2-300 but you'll have a good kit that you can use for as long as you put them back in the box and not leave them all over the driveway Smile

A few Kinchrome items are good but they are generally a cheap brand with cheap quality and high prices...

don't bother with repco stores -buy sidchrome- but from a more trade oriented autoparts place, like coventry autoparts.
btw your grandkids will use your hand-me-down sidchrome tools 100 years from now:)

If you need some heavy sockets, you can't go past some made for impact drivers. They are a bit heavy and clunky though. Otherwise I thought my "Stanley" socket set was ideal to lug around at <$100 (3/8 and 1/4 drive sockets with a lifetime warantee). I also have my eye on those Metrinch sockets and spanners for when I am feeling lazy and dont want to use the proper sizes.

Metrinch are great sockets. I have use them for about 4 years undooing 5 year old rusted nuts with no problems. The only problem is their 1/4 inch rachet is not the best. I do treat it pretty badly though. I would recomend them alot the rounded nuts they can undo are unbelivable.

what size ratchet? i think you're looking around the $50 mark for a 1/2" one.

why just the ratchet? u need decent sidcrome sockets too (they break more than the ratchets do)... its more economical to buy a set.

i spent $200 on a decent size 1/2" sidcrome set and its been the best money i have ever spent on tools!! highly recommended

as for torque wrenches you get what you pay for... i spent $50 on a average one... havent used it enough yet to judge how good it is but it seems to do the job... better than spending $150 on one anyway.

One thing to remember is, a Sidchrome may be $300 and the cheap set may be $150 but if you brake the cheap set you'll have to fork out for a new set anyway! And as said before, a Sidchrome set will last many lifetimes and if you do brake something is is covered under the lifetime guarantee!
I bought a 24 peice Sidchrome spanner set(22104) on special not that long ago! I think I paid about $230! At first I thought I had wasted my money, But after using them a fair few times I realised it was well worth it!

What dodgy cheap sets you buying for 150 bucks??!! I only buy $20 sets (one for spanners and obne for sockets - 40 bucks!!)

I only buy these because I have a habit of throwing them everywhere so I don't waste my money on good ones I'll loose!! I do break them pretty often though!

Tim.

My brother bought 1 new spanner (open end 1/2" & 9/16") and 1 new socket (3/4" universal socket) today for work.

Total price? Only $130.......

I still need about half a dozen or so sockets.

i got a sidchrome set, cost me $1150. about 200 piece set in chest with bearing slides. sidchrome are ok, the ratchets are annoying cause when your just holding the end once the nut is loose and turning it quick you sometimes bump the slide, a bit annoying. also im VERY disspleased with the pipe spanners. i frequently need the 14mm pipe spanner and its really like a 14.5mm. i do alot of fuel filters and it rounds the nut every time, its shithouse. other than that, sidchrome is a good set for the price which is cheap compared to snap on but snap on is miles ahead in quality.
