Damn they are exxy. It makes Turbosmart 45mm Wastegates look good at sub $700.

Why are you going for one of these, do you know something about turbosmart unit's?? (A mate is getting a turbosmart WG next week)

Yes my friend, I have.
I was going to go for the turbo smart unit, but they are not of the same quality as the tial ones.
For a start, the valve in the turbosmart unit only opens maybe 1 cm max, which means that your flow is going to be impeded in a big way comparative to a unit that opens up to the full capacity of the valve area.
In addition to that, the turbosmart valve works in a simple fashion (and don't quote me on this, I don't know the entire specifics of it, but I have been told and shown).
Basically what the turbosmart one does, is senses the pressure in the top fo the can and opens when the pressure increases. It does not give good nor accurate boost control.

The tial one however uses two pressure inputs. One at the base and one at the top. The boost pressure goes in the top and pushes down onto the top of the piston. Basically unless the boost pressure overwhelms the pressure below the piston, it will not open. Putting it simply, it will NOT open unless the boost you require is met. It physically cannot open until the boost pressure is met. Better boost control.
Anyhow,
I thought it was worth the extra dollars alone when I saw how much the turbosmart unit opened up.

Turbosmart ones have fittings for positive pressure to the top of the diaphram. I have seen one.

I will look into how far they open, as this intrigues me.

I know that TrusT 45mm units open up a fair way.

Pete: The turbosmart ones do have a positive pressure inlet at the top of the can, yes, you are right.
However it's the actuation of the valve that differs. Basically, boost control is not a good with a turbo smart one. It will start opening at (lets just say you have it set at 20 psi) something like 16-17 psi and then will be fully open at 24psi.

But you wanted it set at 20psi did you not? Oh well, get what you pay for. Wink

The tial one will open on 20psi and stay at 20psi.

And yes, you are right, the trust 45mm ones do open up a big way, and guess how much you pay for those little baby's.
Smile

fly_psi: It's possible that they will still be around in a few months, but I'm not certain. Just get a hold of me when you want it and i"ll find out.

I'll second that
My Turbo guy has actually stopped selling TurboSmart wastegates completely as they tend to not last very long. not wanting to offend anyone, but they are of pretty dodgy build quality, and innacurate.

The Tial will perform just as well as a Trust or HKS equivelant though.
