MX 83 fuel consumption

Hi,
I got my grandad free bargain MX83/1989 Cressida going, registered etc. but
This thing drink petrol like ... anyway, what is fuel consumption for this car in a decent city driving (Melbourne)
I am getting about 18 litres per 100 km!!!
Is this a beauty of 7M standard engine, 4-speed auto, and 15" wheels?
Or something else is staffed. Friend heard something about sensors that go faulty (O2 sensor etc) and generate wrong info for "on board" ECU computer. Any info how to test/fix them. Any idea ideas on what else can be wrong if this fuel consumption is not normal?
I have another problem. This car has rear end about 5 cm (measuring from the centre of the wheel to the wheel arch) higher then the front. Looks somewhat funny. Is it a beauty of this vintage or front struts/coil springs are sagging. If so is it strut, or coil or both and what is the cheapest way to fix it.
Grandpapa was not heavy, and the car done 150ooo k.
After rego and insurance cannot afford to drive it too much but it is nice, quiet and very comfortable.
Will appreciate any advice, as well as any info about factory workshop manual.
Best regards
Greg

sounds about right for consumption - i get about 350 - 400km per tank...
the suspension is correct too - that's why my rear is lowered 3 inches and the front 2

I recently drove my standard (150,000km) mx83 from Dubbo to Brisbane and back. Most of the hwy driving was in 110km/h zone where we averaged closer to 120 km/h, with cruise control on.
For the whole trip which included a bit of city stop start, but not too much i averaged 28.5 mpg. The best was 32 mpg....which is pretty bloody good and the worst which was in and around Brissy was 26 mpg.
I'm sure in peak hour it would use a bit more, maybe down to 22 mpg, but i think 18 litres per 100 km is a bit too much. The MX-83 is not an overly heavy car (as many think it is) it's kerb weight is 1440 kg.
I have been told the same thing about the 02 sensors, one mechanic suggesting that they should be replaced at 100,000 km. I will be replacing it as a matter of course as well as getting the auto checked out and the idle speed motor checked as well as it idles high every now and then.

I get a healthy 12-13 Liters per 100km....With a brand new O2 sensor...Was getting about 19-21 liters on the old one...Was worth the 70 bucks to fix it...Also fixed a rough idle too!

Long trips (sydney melbounre etc) 6-700Kms per tank, around town about 4-450Kms, I recently replaced the 02 sensor and it made about 50Kms per tank difference

The first 500km after I bought my cressida I got about 12.5L/100k's, but i admit I was giving it a fair hiding (a bit more fun then my previous car, a 1972 180B).
Now I usually get around 11.5L/100k's, but thats still driving it a bit harder then is necessary for a trip to work or the shops
