was wondering if you can take off and drive around without the cover over the inside of the brake discs on the RA23's as without them the breaks should have much greater cooling.

Yes you can - my Celica has been like this for a few years. Don't expect it to make much difference though.

ok cool, just thought it would cause the inside of the disc to be a bit cooler and sort out the problem of the uneven brake wear as the inside pads don't wear much and thought it might be due to the inside of the disk being hotter.

I think you'll find that's because of the caliper design, not the heat of the disc.

But yeah, turf the dust covers. It will let more dirt onto the discs, but most of us probably go through a few sets of discs anyway, right? I love looking through the wheels after a nice drive at night and seeing the disc glowing brightly Very Happy

I get bad brake fade as it is, if they got that hot that they began to glow i don't think the car would stop Laughing

how do you take them off? is there just one bolt or something?

there is 4 bolts on the back of there somewhere.

u gotta take off the disc to get to them tho if i remember corretcly.

I cut the front of mine open, and bent it to form a big scoop, and covered with a mesh. so they hopefully draw more air in, and it passes over the vents in my discs. I saw an engineer do this on one of his cars in his shop, and he was talkin it up so much i thought id give it a go
