Chaser/pimp cruiser ideas?
|
Sat, 17 July 2004 13:20

Just getting ideas on what my next project car might be. I would probably be looking at something pimp stylin like a chaser to accept a 1UZ maybe
Would have to be around the 90's and probably no earlier if possible. Up to 12-14k?
Any ideas? Photos would be handy. Thanks

You thinking of a JZX81?
I dunno, id just go all out on a Celsior/LS400. 19" Wheels, Fat exhaust, "dumped hard bro" then maybe a twin turbo set up leter on. You can get an 89 Celsior for 11k cant you??

The brake setup was easy once I figured out all the bits would fit together. The hardest bit was the brackets which I had my engineer to machine for me.
As for cost, it wasn't much really. A set of rotors, RA40 struts, MS65 hubs, Calipers and then the machining time.

I've liked these cars for ages but DAMN that's a nice example!! (getting ideas now.. add a tow-bar and I could use that to tow the Corolla when I turn it into a track car)
fade-e - I'm pretty sure that they do come with a front mount as standard, but the cooler on that black car is pretty far from stock..
Shane - I was looking at the price on a few of them for sale here in Sydney some months back.. Were in the 40-45k bracket then I think. Not sure if that would have dropped by much yet, but I doubt it.

Buy an MX83 and fit the airbag kit that "Burnin' Customs" make... Full stock look to full pimp look in 1sec.
It's been a dream of mine since I lowered the car and can't drive it up wheel ramps anymore. I want to be able to press a button and raise it at will.

I'd have to say the best bet (if you want another project) would be to get an MX83 and do a 1UZ conversion. Light blue, dark tints, slightly lowered and a nice set of 18s

My GX81 Ghaser GT arrived in Brisbane last week, it's in the process of finishing the work required for compliance at the moment.
It's the pillarless type, with factory manual 1ggte and G285 LSD. Has a really nice navy blue velour interior and suprisingly no rust.
The car has cost SFA so far to purchase and get in the country, and it is the base for a J series swap of some description as the JZX81's are not eligable for import until next year...

Personally I wouldn't bother with a 1uz in an mx83. I would just get an 89 celsior to start with as they are pretty cheap anyway. Less hassles as the engine is already in there and all factory wiring.

nope, the GX71 is the squarer shape... The GX81 GT is very similar to an Aus delivered MX83 but the GX81 Chaser is pillarless.
Here's a pic of my car in it's current filthy space-saver wheeled state

Has factory sunroof, elec mirrors, elec windows, central locking, rear wiper, climate control aircon, factory air purifier, GT spec seats, full velour trim, and a bunch of other different little features.

leather means grande.if you buy an mx83 try to get an 89-90 model as they look better with the extra chrome gear, and also look fatter at the rear with their different lights & numberplate surround.the celsior is VERY tempting and is something ive been agonising over for a while.

|
That is very much a matter of opinion... The 89-90 model has some unattractive points. The main one being the colour coded
interior... With a maroon car the dash, roof lining, seats everything is coloured maroon. When the maroon velour fades
(as they all are by now) it fades to a brown colour. The blue velour and interior is not to nice either.
The bumpers are two piece and look like a lower lip is "tacked on" and not nice. The chrome door handles are nice but the
corner lights and chrome quarter panel things look ghey.
The late 90 to 92 model has grey velour or grey leather for all body colours. It has a sleeker looking set of bumpers
(incidently are cheaper to buy). Nice front parker lights with no ghey chrome doozy on the qtr panel. Basically looks way more
modern.
Lowered and with a set of mags they look tough. Like mine.

Damn I'd be tempted by a Celsior. Although the motor is already a 1UZ, there's so much more to be done (twin turbos or supercharged). Plus the price is ridiculously cheap for what they are (rememeber they were around $140K when new). Look bigger than an mx83 too - so probably more roomy and comfortable.
If I was in the market for another car, it's be hard to go past a Celsior.
LS400 Soarers are getting ridiculously cheap these days - one in Adel recently went for $9K because they're not selling like hey used to. Once they become 15 year eligible the price will drop like a stone.

what i said b4 about 89 v 92 cressidas was pointed out to me by a recent 92 grande owner.i prefer the earlier bumpers/chin spoiler and chrome shit as it takes away a bit of the camry from them.would agree about the velour interior, mine is blue and has been faded from the time i got it 6 years ago (71,000 kms, window tint from new).fading velour & BHG real problems with these cars.

I'd have to agree with lumpy here. At less than 10k, they are getting ridiculously cheap. I wonder how hard it would be to do a manual conversion ?
Any idea if the 1UZ's came with a manual box ?
I wonder how much space there is in the engine bay to do a TT conversion ? Now that'd be a fast pipmmobile !!!

Yeah, a matter of taste... I can handle that.
The grey velour is not just a different colour though... Feels different and seems more fade resistant. Mine's holding up
pretty well as were the other 91 Cressida's I looked at when shopping for one.
