From what Ive read your better of flashing the Liteon/Sony drives to the Liteon firmwares. My 812S flashed to the DL 832S no problems although I see no point with DL media at the moment. DL @ $12 a disk compared to $2 for 2 SL disks which is the same capacity all up.

Try $1.40 for two discs.
I bought a spindle of 50 for $35. And they're the inkjet printable ones too so they have that extra layer of thickness on top where it needs the protection.

I know there are cheapies but I wont touch them. Ritek or Taiyo yaden are about the only good quality ones around.

The ones I bought are Princo 4x-r. They are very good too. I have no problems with them so far. I even mucked around last night (I havn't had the burner for long), and made a copy of my original mad max dvd with dvdxcopy just to see how it works. Well, last night/this morning I was watching it just fine on my lounge room dvd player. Which is just saying it had no issues with the dvd media. And as I mentioned the inkjet printable, I just love the extra "security" from having that extra bit of thickness on top of the disc.

Princo... Yuk!
Those Princo discs are really $hit quality and for all those who wonder how come they are so cheap... well they don't have a philips license and that saves them $0.10US per disc
check http://licensing.philips.com/ for info on who is and is not a licensed manufacturer

There are 2 main liteon burners, one is 8x for +r media and 4x for -r media, this one won't work with the firmware upgrade thing. If you have the newer one that is 8x for both +r and -r media then you are set I think there is also a 12x burner but i don't know if this one can be used for the DL upgrade.
In regards to media, i have princos and havn't had a problem. The guys over at austech.info seem to have taken sides with either ritek or princo and their are arguements both ways on which media is shit.
