need tyres for AE86 - 195 60 R14 for around 100 a corner Sun, 18 July 2004 14:07 Go to next message
as the title suggests, i am after some 14 inch tyres for my sprinter. they are to be mounted on a 6 inch wide rim.

the 100 each is fairly arbitrary, if i can get good tyres for heaps less, i will, and if i can get awesome tyres for a bit more, i will.

i dont want anything too soft, but being a light car this may be less of a problem???

what works?

what doesnt?

what should i steer clear of?

oh yeah, totally rice factor, but they have to look good too, symmetrical tread etc Rolling Eyes

sorry if this topic is brought up too often, i havent seen too many tyre threads floating around.

I've got those exact same sized tires on the exact same width rim on my celica, only thing is thier yokohama a1's, Wouldn't really know how to compare them since this is pretty much the first set i've got but they grip pretty well, i can do 3500 rpm clutch dumps and they just grip straight away, the lsd might have osmething to do with that though

what the shit are G grid 2s?

looking at falken ZE326 at the moment, only thing is, they cost more in 195 60 R14 than they are in 195 55 R 15.

can get these for 105 each, fitted balanced and new valves etc. little bit less for the 15s, but then i dont have 15 inch rims.

just did a bit of research into the g grid 2s, now i know that they are made by bridgestone and are symmetrical, which is an asthetic bonus.

thanks for a ballpark figure ae86 drift, now all i need to do is figure out which tyres i want.

edit:

i have heard A539s are good, but i dont want to spend that much, and i have heard that they "go off" fairly quickly.

of course, it is very hard to work out how accurate this is, as some people are rather fond of doing burnouts, others arent.

i will be interested to hear how you go with them, maybeye a light hachi roku wont wear them out so fast, i am definately considering the yokos for when i have 15 inch rims and a bigger tyre budget!

grid 2's are discontinued by the way Sad
ive also heard that the 539 wear quick

also i run:
a539 on the front (7 inch wide with 185x55)
g3 on the back (7.5 inch wide with 185x60)

best combo for grip up front and slide out back Very Happy

but the g3 isnt that slippy on the right suspension

i will also agree that G3's are good

even tho they are really bald now, they still grip better than cheap tyres with good tred.

getting some new tyres v soon, i cant really afford shit atm so i need some 2nd hand ones till next pay... oh the woes of getting paid monthly!

i get paid on the 15th of every month, its the 20th and just about all my cash is gone! Crying or Very Sad

i'm running the same size tyres on my celica too, i have yokos A539, they are nice agressive tyres, and very gripy, they go for about 110-120/ quater, mine were 110ea, one problem is they wear rather quickly. i'm looking at some michlin tyres for the nex set and i'm getting nitro in them fomr $6/tyre

Nitrogen in yur tires is so wank factor. its just a gimmick. it makes SFA difference.

i got pirelli P6000 tires on my rolla and they are quite grippy in the wet and the dry, and the wear is quite good done about 20, 000 k's on am and there is about 40-50% tread still left in them. i dont do burnouts tho, but i do drive hard, a fair bit of hills driving. i thnk they cost be something like $105-110/ corner

i had Kuhmos 769's on there before and they were SH*T! got 23,000ks and they were bald as f*ck, grip was shit in the wet, okish in the dry, squeeled heaps tho on hard cornering.

i got new rims now and they are wider so i'm looking at gettin some 195/60/R14's as well

im also lookin at about yur price point i cant really afford to spend more than 500 on tyres so my max would be 125/corner.

I think i'll give the G3's a try when these die. hopefully i can get them in a 195/60/R14

Cheers

I am running the G3's in 195/50 14. The only issue that i felt i had (fronts now running A539) with them was that the side wall stiffness was somewhat lacking. Even the simex sm8000 had better sidewall stiffness.

The GIII is a very very progressive tyre. I dont feel that the A539 goes off quickly.
