88 rolla - carby issues

Hi all,
Got some carby issues in a straight 88 rolla (no, not twin cam). It's the AE82. Done some k's (491,000). Don't know if the carby is the original (God I hope not).
Does anyone have any pics or details on the carby and how to break it down? I wanna put a kit through it and get it running well. The poor thing has so many problems.
I am getting fairly shitty fuel economy (boosted recently by lovely new oil change). The auto choke sometimes decides to come on when it shouldn't. Sometimes it will stall, even when warm. I occasionally get weird idle where it feels like the accelorator has a mind of it's own, moving by itself (this often happens when it is about to stall).
What the hell is wrong with it and what can I do? Or should I take it to a specialist? And how much would that cost approx? And who is good? I am willing to travel. I live in the Blue Mountains NSW.
Ta in advance,
Bindi

you could get a manual for your car.. can't remember the name of the one i have offhand... it's the corolla/nova one with black on the cover
one place i can recommend is CSC (carburettor service company) near burwood.
