biggest problem is that its a royal PITA to get to the turbo VSV on the back of the block.

You can get second-hand manual boost controllers for about $50 now, so it makes more sense to just buy that and fit it, rather than trying to pull on and then reinstall the VSV.

Still do the diode mod thou if you want to run higher than 12psi thou.

The underlying fundamental principle in that boost mod was that when the ECU says 'yes, good conditions now, lets go play' a higher boost level than the factory limit is allowed as the VSV has been drilled out to a greater diameter and it lets a higher pressure level be held before the wastegate opens. You still need to do the diode mod to beat the fuel cut.
If you really want what the title of your e-mail says, why don't you see if you can fit some thicker washers on the mounting bolts of the wastegate actuator arm, so that the distance that it opens through is reduced therefore if will see higher boost before it swings open.
Mitch.

just a word of advice - dont try any " cheap quick or easy " mods on the 3sgte without REALLy looking into them ..

3sgte's are not cheap to repair if you fuck them up - so play it safe before doing anything to the motor your not sure about

And on that note, and something I should have said ages ago.....your very first ever mod on a turbo car is to fit a good boost gauge. Every time.

i have fitted a boost contoller to several gt4's.
the best result is to disconnect the vsv altogehter .block the fittng's going to it .

a simple pot and two 1k diodes handles boost cut fine .

leaving factory controlled boost intact gives little control over boost .

then you can fit a controller from there .

the factory wastgeagate suffers BADLY from creep so adding a wastegate control makes all the difference .

i cant remember boost levels for 185 but on an st205 group a we ran 17 psi no probs with boost coming on flat out until 15 psi .
