shift sound Mon, 19 July 2004 07:29 Go to next message
just wondering, not a project as of yet...

but everyone knows a shift light, but is it possible to create a shift sound? akin to like a speed alert thing, that goes off after a certain rpm is hit?

because if it was possible, i reckon i'd nearly take that as opposed to a shift light/tacho Very Happy

just wondering though guys Very Happy

Old rotary's came standard with this feature.... Known as 'the buzzer', it would bring a smile to any enthusiasts face when heard coz you knew what it meant...... I've still got a couple lying around I think.

Long version of Nark's reply:

The shift light simply lights the globe when a certain condition closes a switch and completes the circuit. You could replace the globe with a buzzer just fine (from an electronic perspective).

Hi,

Change your gearbox to an auto.

I dunno about the rest of you, but if you know your car then you should be able to tell by the sound and feel of the vehicle how much it's revving.

In any event, Silicon Chip magazine did a kit for this type of thing. Jaycar or Dickhead Smith or Altronics should be able to sell you the kit. Failing that, PM me, as I may have that particular magazine around and can scan it for you.

If you worried about it becoming annoying, why can't you just install a switch?

When you want to have fun, on goes the switch,.. when your sick of it,.. off goes the switch...

two more options turn up your stereo then you can't hear it, or just move when it comes in past the redline, and it won't bother you
