Ae86 -> T18 diff Questions

Yes i have searched about this - but is still have questions
If i grab a t18 diff, drum to drum including the t18 tail shaft (Just the 2nd half)? Is that all i need? Will this bolt directly up to the ae86, or will handbrake mounts or anything need to be changed?
also when buying an aftermarket LSD to throw in, do the driveshafts for the T series diffs from the T18 have the same amount of splines as the Jap T series driveshafts?

1 more question - is $110 about the price i should pay for a drum to drum t18 diff?
FWIW i will take photos of the conversion and add them to the Faq for future reference.

for some reason me thinks the t-18 diff wont support an LSD, but people do this conversion because its stronger.
i'll accept that if im wrong im wrong, thats just my understanding on the t-18 diff.

The T18 certainly will "support" an LSD; just make sure you get one with the correct number of splines. Try searching again, this information has certainly been posted here at least once before by Simon (who currently has an LSD centre in his T18 diff).

And I know that T18 diff's could be had for $75 drum to drum from some wreckers, unless the recent spate of T18 diff sales has jacked up prices ...
I know a few culprits ...

Ive already been to a few wreckers to no avail..
After chatting with Simon i have found my answers.
Yes it is a bolt in Job,
Yes i need the rear half of t18 tailshaft
The LSD to look for is the zenkie ( right amount of splines)
Now ive got something to do on the weekend
Cheers Guys.

FWIW i paid 50 for complete rear end with cables and tailshaft from ABC Wreakers at Wacol, AND they took it out for me!
Ive found that most t18 axkes are a little on the worn side, they have some play in the LSD spline, i found a good set after buying 3 pairs
cheers
Simon

do the T-18 diffs come standard with an LSD and is there any downside to having one???

mate, the T18 diff is exactlly same as a JDM rear end except it has drums and smaller wheel bearings.
the aust t18 diffs that are commonly found here usually have a 3.7 open diff.
there are some early housings that done have sway bar links on them and other later housings that do. so keep an eye out./

I belive RA40 diff is exactly the same diff but tail shaft is diferent and manuals are 3.9 and autos are 4.1 and I heard that RT141 disc setup is a boltup. Not sure about the cables though. No sway bar mounts either but thats easily fixed.Turns out a Tercel rear sway bar is 17mm and near a perfect fit to so if you're already making mounts.....

FWIW,
I did this conversion on the weekend, Unfortunately i got an early t18 diff with no swaybar mounts, so i had to grind them off the ae86 diff and weld them on the t18 diff.
Apart from that it was a bolt in job.
Need to use the rear half of the t18 drive shaft and also need to use the ae86 handbrake cables (i found this out after putting it all back together
now i just have to find a good lsd center

There are 2 T-18's wrecking at pick'n'pay less, both still have complete rear ends. (this was 2 weeks ago - not sure if still there) but everything seems to be in good order, straight axles/hub etc. But i'm pretty sure the rear tailshafts were taken...funnily enough there was an ae86 there, i was scampering it out like a rat, got some nibbly's......has anyone else seen an 86 there before? cuz that was the first i'd seen

Picked up my t18 rear end and tailshaft today.
For those of you in QLD looking for a rear end, the wreckers at Narangba are wrecking 3 t18's.
