Guys, just asking on the chance someone has looked at this before or has a ford and can look. Will the 1j format fit the XF engine bay ( i am sure it will) secondly will it require major mods to the X-member / sump config? and perhaps the steering?
regards
(trying to convince a mate its quicker(car) and better engine, to do this swap, than get a old XR6 with there 170 odd kW. and mega km's)

The 1J come's with either front, mid or rear sump configurations, so chances are ther'll be a sump to fit around the crossmember.

I looked at this a little bit for a mate of mine once, however the idea never worked out. Also, the old Falcon six, despite being tractor like, can be made to produce some pretty big power when combined with a decent sized turbo... Add up what a conversion is going to cost and look at all the options.

Whilst you could probably find a 1jz sump that will come close to fitting you would probably still need to do sump/xmember mods.
The falc 6 has a pretty strong botttom end and a good freshen up and a turbo would be cheaper and much easier. There are quite a few really good examples going around. Check out the ford forums for a better idea.

whilst the 4.1 is a hefty motor and doesn't like to rev, it sure does make torque.
you could fit one of the AIT twin turbo kits.. a mate of mine is doing that now with (i think) 2x T25G's
we did some calcs for it.. a 4.1 with even 7psi boost is still comparable with a 1JZ with 14psi...
the 1J is 2.5L no? in a heacy car like the XF, you need capacity to get the torque to get the slug moving
a 2J would be a better start, and a 1UZ, even better...
but do it anyway, not enough people have a go at things like this!!
good luck!

And if you do do it, you'll want a front sumped 1J motor, as the engine crossmember in a Falcon basically assumes a mid mount position!

Take a leaf out of MS75's book. Turbo a 1FZFE.
