Hi all
I was wondering has anyone done this conversion? Does the engine actually fit? How hard is the wiring if I replace the whole loom and Computer with one froma half cut? Ie how do I attach the new computer to the car?? Power earth or things like leccy windows power steering etc? What kind of km should I be looking at fora 20V silver top? And finally do youthink this would be a conversion worth doing, my current engine is the 1.8l 7AFE with 85Kw.
Thanks in advance

Haven't heard of a 20V into an ae112. I think should check the legalities regarding engine age. I've heard (though never seen in writing) that it is illegal to put an engine older than the chassis into a car. This would make getting a 20V somewhat more difficult I image ans you would be restricted to engines from 99 onwards. Apart from that I think the block would bolt in without too much drama. The standard advice for this sort of conversion is to get a front cut because then you get all the electrics, appropriate gearbox, drive shafts a brakes. saves you having to buy sensors and other little parts later on.
Good Luck,
Monty

Tim
I'd done a Blacktop 20v (AE111) into a AE102 Sprinter (luxury Corolla).
Mechanically everything bolts in with no modifications at all. The AE10x & AE11x chassis are virtually identical except for the radiator support frame & body panels.
Electronically, it can be tricky depending on how experience you are with electric diagrams & concepts. What I'd done with mine was simple, I simply separated the 7A-FE & 4A-GE engine loom from their respective body looms. The 4A-GE loom then went into the AE102 body loom. You would require a 4AGE 20v ecu wiring diagram (available on the net), an AE111 wiring book (from Toyota), patience, concentration & a few days. Doing this way also kept everything looking original & clean.
I recommend getting a complete 20v Blacktop front cut with 30-60k KM. And if you're lucky you might find one with the 6spd box! You'd also need the aircon & power-steering from the front-cut as the one from the AE112 is not compatible with the 4AGE.
If spending $3.5k to $5k to do the conversion is not a problem, I would definitely recommend it. The extra power & revs from the 4AGE is something to be enjoyed.
Cheers...

It has to be a blacktop 20V from an AE111. Make sur it's not an AE101 Blacktop (yes they did) as earlier engines will not be allowed in later model cars. Everything is a straight swap, there is no mods to engine or gearbox mount, just wiring, and the have this nice six-speed box too which fit nicely!!

just something to think of first.... it's illegal to swap in an older engine than the car came with so I'm pretty sure a 20V into a '99 car would be illegal in nsw at least

u think thered be any problems with putting a Blk Top 20V & 6speed gearbox in an AE82?
(apart from the mod plate which would easily be worked around by adding better brakes and suspension)

No, I aready done one... emissions and engineers on the emissions.

This has been Binned, the car only has to meet the emission standards for what is relevantly required and deemed as an acceptable level for that age of car. It is worked out that cars built/sold from say '86-92 has to acheive under "X" in CO2, "Y" in NO2... blah blah and car Built/Sold from '92-99 to acheive under "X+%" in CO2, "Y+%" in NO2.... This is a much better system! and I think the RTA has table on the web, If not Penrith RTA will be able to help as they did my car.
