Best air filters to suit 2TG? Fri, 23 July 2004 08:40 Go to next message
Hi guys,

What air filters do you recommend running on a 2TG with twin Solex carbies?

I have been told K&N make a good box type filter, although expensive...are there any other alternatives that you guys use?

Hi,

Mines an 18RG and it uses the Toyota box filter with a big pipe to a cylindrical filter (in a can) that sits near the front of the engine bay so it can suck in colder air - ie, not little filters jammed on the carbies themselves. Dunno if this is better or not, but it looks nicer IMHO.

My 2TG that was running twin 40mm dellortos (basically the same as your solexes) was running twin box type unifilters. They worked fine, they come in different thickness/depth I just got the biggest ones I could fit in the car (the thickest that would fit between the carb and the strut tower/master cylinder). I would suggest you do the same, just get the biggest/thisckest size you can.

Shane.

If it was my setup you are referring to I am afraid I don't own the car any more (and the new owner has fitted a 4AGTE). So I can't help with pics sorry.

I had Ramflo 400 filters on my 2T-G in TA22. Was concerned that the foam insert seal to the backing plate wouldn't be too good. Would prefer the K&N/Unifilter style filter for carb-mounted system.

Search http://www.lynxcorp.com.au/ramflo_airfilters.htm for Weber DCOE 40 (Part RF40).

Recently sold the Ramflo filters in favour of a new plenum/filter design incorporating an enclosed air box (with short ram tubes inside) fed by an air filter positioned in the front corner of the engine bay. This is still 'under construction' so no pics yet.
