The fuel gauge in my RA40 is on the blink, When i fill my tank fully it will show a full tank but when it gets below what would be half a tank it shows i'm runnign on empty. How can i fix this? or will i need to replace it?

hey ya, I forget what the fuel gauge looks like in a RA40 but I'm pretty sure it's cirular, therefore I would go for a replacement gauge, something like VDO, Pricol, or Autometer. If that doesn't work it's time to rip the fuel tank out and check the sender, easy fix is a wrecker run for this one. otherwise if the gauge is in the main center with all the others, as I sead I can't remember, you best be going with out a car for a while, while you give the instument cluster to a buisness that specialises in fixing them I know of a good place up here in Brisbane, But I'm sure you'll be able to find one around you. Hope it was of some help Benny

I've had this problem (different car tho)..and it was the sender. As the fuel drops from full, resistance is increased and needle in guage drops back with less current. When I pulled the sender to bits, I found the resistance coil worn out and wires broken, I guess from from many hundreds of thou klms (it was a hi mileage car) petrol sloshing around below half full.
