in a nutshell, its an extra set of butterfly throttles that open up at certain rpms and sucks in more air, thus more power.
same concept of vtec

isnt it meant to choke the motor to help control the response down low. you got aftermarket comp.. rip it out.its bolted between your inlet manifold and head it comes right out.

It's simply a form of variable inlet tuning. There are 8 runners, 2 for each cylinder; the butterflies close off one set of runners at low rpm to increase air velocity, and at higher rpm they open up to allow the engine to breathe. Removing the TVIS system may liberate a small amount of power at high rpm but at the expense of low rpm response.
