My 18r-gu...up until recently i belived that it went really well. It runs like a dream. Idles beatufully and sounds awesome. Then the other night i went for a ride in a mates ta22 with 2tg in it. The 2tg was standard exept being recently dino tuned and the carbs re-jetted or something. That car had so much pull. The pickup left mine for dead. I was back in my seat n shit. Can anyone give any ideas why? could it just be the carbs> even tho it runs great?
i have 150 psi across all cylinders..so thats ok?
im quite annoyed now..that i get owned by a standard 2tg against my 18r-gu. Is that normal?
thankx

18rg > 2tg
150 on all 4 is a bit low 170 is std i think with a limit of 140 difference of 14 per cyl.

it depends on what pistons you have in the 18R-G. There were three most common types, being:
# 9.7:1
# 8.7:1
# 8.3:1
As for the 2T-G being faster, most likely its the tune of your 18RG. Get it rejetted and dyno tuned and you should be very happy.

Hi,
Don't forget the 2TG is a pokey little engine and it is in a TA22 which weighs in at a paltry 940kg. However, I'd still get your motor checked.

Check your cams too someone along the way might have swapped them for GEU cams which will affect your performance.
Other than that i would tend to agree with Witzl and get the carbies tuned then have another go.
My last 18rg had about 195psi or atleast thats what it said on the guage i was running 9.7:1 pistons tho.
Cheers

Heavier car versus lighter car, tuned motor versus non tuned motor, it all adds up!!! Focus on the small things and the performance will come in time, but always enjoy it for what it is! 18RG's are typically "slow" under 3000 revs, I've always found too.
