BOV install Sun, 25 July 2004 10:17 Go to next message
I am just about to get a guy at virginia to install a BOV (to atmosphere) in my '90 GT4. I know he doesn't have a dyno. Can he do a good job, is it possible.
How much damage can be done.

The problems that you might encounter installing the BOv, is that you will run overly rich between gear changes, because of the AFM system.

Thats about the only damage that could happen. Installing a BOV is peanuts.

ummm... i don't think you need a dyno to calibrate a BoV... at all.

any adjustment (if the unit allows it) can be done with hood up and then a quick drive around the industrial estate.

also ... your engine's ECU (progrmming actually) is not designed for air to be lost from the induction system post-turbo (hence the AFM comment from lance). expect a bit more popping from exhaust when changing gears.

yes...

obvious answer: don't by a BoV that vents 100% to atmo

seriously tho: if you vent into the intake pipe post-AFM, you'll still get [i]some[/]i of the sound that the atmo BoV would have given you....

unless you're running a programmable ECU (e.g. after market) then i doubt there is any ECU-related solution to this.

i thnk there's a few recent BoV threads that cover this.

yup well i took ur advice and got mercury to do it today.
As luck would have it the Redline BOV i purchased doesn't dump to atmosphere in 1 great fucken wiss. It's a variable valve release which seems to overcome at least some of the problem of backfires. After a couple of adjustments and a few rather loud explosions coming from the bottom of the car later and we seem to have found a sweet spot.
Boost next!!
thanks for all your help folks.
