Good panel place to remove keyholes? [SYD]
|

As title states.
I don't want to bring it to a place where they will charge me sky high prices, and have my car in the shop for weeks.
I'm hoping for a place where they will do it no problem, say when it will be done and how much it will be around (and not slapping me with an invoice at the end with rediculous extra labour
Sydney Metro area preferred.

well judging from what happened recently with my car, i'd recommend to get rid of any keyholes or handles cuz it's just too easy to access.
hmmm group fix sounds good.
anyone wanna take a trip to Greenacre?

Put a little fore thourght into that before you start there are several ways around it. But most still leave you stranded if you're fob battery goes flat.

I had this done on my RA28.. But I did leave the lock in the tailgate so if my battery goes dead I can climb in that way. Kinda defeats the whole security idea though, but maybe helps a bit.
I reckon a good way would be to connect 2 wires to your central locking motor and hide them VERY well under the car, then if the battery does go flat you can just supply 12v to these wires and open the doors.

and this will stop bricks and other hard objectd from smashing ya windoze ?
seriosuly if they want your car or in it they will find a way
just accept it as part and parcel of the risk of modifyin/owning a nice ride
if not go and buy a sigma/camira/xd falcon etc and rest assured that virtually no 1 will pay interest in your ride
that is unless u do sumfin stoopid like leave ur laptop in da car

You basically want to make your car harder to get into than one of the cars parked in front of you. You cartainly won't stop someone taking your car with a tilt tray truck etc.
So there is a trade off.........

no mate, you got me all wrong, i was like <-- that because i was fumbling on Garth's idea of a 'group shave' LOL
I might take a trip down this weekend, i have no idea where greenacre is but i appreciate your recommendation
As for if the electrics die, well, your just gonna have to prepare yourself for alternatives cuz afterall it's a mod which requires thought and I'm sure each and every individual car has back up plans.
Shaving the locks prevents one major way of breaking into a car. It maybe little, but it will turn a thief off if he/she doesn't want a 'messy' break in.
Of course there are always thieves with bigger ideas ie. tilt tray etc, but small preventitive measures at least eliminate one way of getting in.

OH OK sweet as dude, and your right i dont think he would do a group buy thing cause it would take the same time to do each car...
if you really want to get fussy bout the electronics then you can do this (and yes i have seen it):-
under the car boot section have a lever that will pop the boot open (obviously concealed like a kill switch/cable boot openers) and in the boot you would have an override button (i guess you could call it that) that would open the driver door/central locking in case of failure
but with the number of people reading this does it make it a hidden setup anymore?

If you look in some US custom and lowrider mags, they often put a concealed, all weather button somewhere under the car for such emergencies. Just looks like a rubber bung.

Greenacre is next to Bankstown.
Audioslaver, did your car have an alarm/immoboliser or what?. Just get a top alarm with a loud ass siren/2stageimmobiliser/impact siren. Shavings locks is a good idea. But as I dont have central/remote locking. I'd also have to organise that. Otherwise I'd be in for a 'group shave' if it saved me $

regrettably, i was due to put in an alarm a few weeks before my car got done. But I didn't get around to it and now i'm kickin myself! I'm in the process now of my 'bulletproof' security upgrade, so shaving the locks is obviously essential - to give an indication - my car had solex protection locks, but it was just a matter of shovin a screwdriver between the gap and ripping the metal open - a key hole would have been a breeze
I already have back up plans if electrics die so i guess it's each individuals secret.
anyone got a rough idea of how much it'll cost?
ie.
removal of surface rust on edges
straightening out minor dent around keyholes
weld plate behind
bog
high filler/putty
colour matching custom colour (pearl)
painting and buffing
X2 doors!
?

with a normal paint they can do it... with a pearl paint it would be very hard(unless u have some of the paint left over from when it was done) otherwise they will pretty much have to do whole door im pretty sure
