There are only 2 choices.
RGV or NSR. nothing on 4 wheels will ever compare to a well tuned 2-stroke GP bike!! They are pure adrenelin on wheels. they sound better, have more power and handle better than anything you've ever seen I garuntee it. It's like having fully preped race car for every day driving.
Just my opinion...
Tim
(PS it is very easy to get 80 RWHP out of an RGV, I've heard of people getting 100 on track NSR's and these bikes weigh about 135-155 kilos in full street trim)

NSR's are the cheapest looking.. shitiest look.. honda ive ever seen... Made in malaysia... CHEEEEP.. You take one look of those things.. Compare them with my mates CBR250RR and you can only laugh..
You can now register a KTM520EXC on the road now on your l's... mmmmmmm mmmmmm mmmmmm...

Don't worry, your mate on his wannabe CBR won't be forced to look at any NSR for long!! Hell, mine was a standard 86 model (one of the earliest) and it ate late model CBR 250's(and a couple of 600's as well) for breakfast!! CBR 250 riders are the same as RICERS!!! All show no go I'm afraid.

get yourself a RGV. yes, im slightly biased
The main bikes to pick from should be Suzuki RGV, Aprilia RS250, Kawasaki KR1-S and the Honda NSR.
Personally, I reckon the NSR looks pretty awesome, plus it has quite a bit of bottom end power, as opposed to my RGV which has nothing under 8000.
KR1's have the most power, but also sound the shittest and dont handle all that well.
The RS has the RGV engine in it anyway, but has double the price tag usually.
The RGV is a great bike. Its cheap, its fast, it handles well, and they look awesome
A couple of things to consider are-
Theft. Its a lot easier to steal a bike than a car. Get yourself a good lock, or even better a big chain and lock it up.
Insurance. I was quoted 800 for fully comp on a 2k bike. 3rd party is cheap tho, but make sure that you can actually get insurance first, as some people wouldnt insure me at all.
Danger Factor. Bikes are fast, and motorists are bad. Most people dont even see you coming so you need to be very careful on the roads.
....just some things to consider.....

sounds like his after a trail bike guys so your probably not being very helpful.
Just check the Trader out Craig and you'll find something will come up.
Good luck but don't give up on the conversion, you're so close!!!

I love bikes I reckon they are awesome, Im not an expert but I know my fair share about them, Im looking at getting another one soon (sold the DT awhile ago to fund the purchase of the supra)
What exactly are you after craig?
Just offroad, road trail, road?
Im still trying to decide whether to get another Yamaha DT200r, or go the road option with an RGV250, a guy at a motor bike place told me that you need to expect to pay about $2000 a year on maintenance on RGVs though
