4AGTE!

It has the most potential for power Very Happy

Or just put in the 4AGZE with pulley mod and stuff like that.

All depends on how much you want to spend.

If its not an issue then just throw a 3SGTE in it. loads of power Smile

Or go bezerk and put in a 4.6litre all alloy Northstar V8. Search google and I'm sure you will see it.

Suprisingly enough these things have had everything under the sun shoehorned into them.

But when it comes down to it, I concur with fatmr2.

in any case, i would recommend the 4AGZE... as it is the same block, it fits rather easily, and as the jap ones came with these engines, there is also extra parts available. u can buy a whole rear cut with gear box, lsd, brakes etc from an importer, which makes the process easier.
if u wanna go turbo later, it already has a strong bottom end, or there is also a great deal of potential in using the supercharger as well.
the choice is yours.

Just bare in mind that if you do get the 4agze you will have to modify the left hand engine mount as the lsd box sits higher than the na one.
Not a big deal by any means but just making sure you know.

There is a MR2 in the states with a V6 camry engine with a TRD charger on it, looks particularily mean, I think its a SW21 though...still worth searching for. A supercharged V6 in a MR2...I scare myself with my 3S sometimes, I hate to think what the V6 power would do...

It all depends on what you want to get from the car and how much work you want to do.

If you want to drive it on the track I'd be looking for a nice NA engine that revs well, either a 20 valve or prefferably a built 16 valve.

If you want a nice simple conversion that makes the car feel tough around town 4AGZE is the go. They came with this engine making hte swap really easy. This also gives you a good building base to make a turbo setup in the future.

If you want to go to the trouble of doing a more extensive conversion then a 3S is the ticket. You could put in either the NA or turbo version of any generation. Since the amount of work to put any of the 3S's in would be about the same I went for the best one and put a Gen3 3SGTE in mine. Toby on these forums has a Gen3 NA engine in his AW11 and seems to enjoy it.

There really is no best engine conversion for any car. There are best value conversions, best power output conversions, best balanced etc but not simply best. A lot of people would say I'm mad for doing the work to get a 3SGTE into the car because I could have turboed a 4AGZE and got the same power. My priorities weren't based simply on maximum power though, so I made my decision based in my priorities and I recommend you do the same.
