My car runs! I even drove it to the nearest gas station to fill it up. It hesitates at various rpm's and dies often but I have found out why. It is running soley off of the battery so I have to jump-start it almost every time. I'm hoping the alternator isn't dead but I'll check. The confusing part is, and this should sound right if you have a MAP 4agze, the alternator harness is part of the body harness on the AE86 but the MAP 4agze has it as part of the engine harness which is the one I am using now, the original ae86 alt plug is just tucked away. Do I have to splice them together for it to work?
you need to connect the altenator most definitely! Think about it dude, its quite easy.
Basically for your alternator to charge it needs the following:
# to be spinning
# Output connected to battery (this is the bolt-down terminal)
# Voltage Sensor wire (on 3 pin plug) connected to batt
# Ignition (3 pin plug) connected to .. you guessed it
# Warning light (in same 3 pin plug) connected to charge light.
