*YET ANOTHER SPRINTER BROKEN INTO!!!* Wed, 28 July 2004 01:26 Go to next message
Ok guys, I dunno wtf is going on, but lock up your hachi roku's if you can. Mine got broken into either the night before last or yesterday.

I went to get in my car after work and noticed the ashtray on the seat, and knew straight away. Then noticed the door was half open and unlocked. I always double and triple check that I have locked my car. There is no evidence of a break in whatsoever!

I am pretty happy tho. All they took was some change out of the centre console and my little doobiewacker for adjusting my shocks. They even left the glovebox open..... With my sunnies still there! Guages are still there - Everything! Bit weird.

Needless to say, it aint parked on the street anymore!

I remember someone posting about their Sprinter key being able to unlock other sprinters, so this is my theory.

My sprinter is terrible, ive had MA61, RA60, TE72 hell even RT142 keys open the thing, and start it Confused Will teach me not to have a kill switch I suppose. Needless to say before I start parking it in public, kill switch and maybe even some of those fancy solex things might be in order....

Dam didnt know the locks were so crappy. My drivers side one is buggered anyway it takes like 5 minutes of jiggling the key to get it open.

When I eventually get the car resprayed Ill get the boot lock removed (passanger side was removed and covered up by previous owner) and covered up and then put a solex lock or something on the drivers door. Coupled with the rest of the stuff Ive had done, hopefully thatll be enough of a deterance :/

I thought so..... Stoopid Sprinter locks....

I'll be shaving my locks too when I get it painted coz that's just ridiculous.

At least they didn't take all my tools. Or even the whole car!

i wouldn't bother mate.......I had solexes, immobilised, dark tints and central locking, they got through all of the, and even left me a suprise element of dumping my car and putting it back to how it was again - locked and immobilised!!

Solexes are a waste of money - they're worse than keyholes. Reasons being is that thieves are not trying to pick the lock, they are rather trying to make access to the mechanisms - and the solex locks have a wider face wall for the scerwdriver to lean up against:

Sad

im getting paranoid now Sad gunna weld up my door locks this weekend and get a central locking installed. fuckking hell.

as for solex's, sorry to say but they are shit and not worth anything.

EASIER to break into than normal locks
simly because you can smack em out

all you need to do is get a screwdriver and smack the fucker through the door, it will pop straight through, nice and clean.

So are there any other options? If I have the boot lock removed that leaves me with the drivers side which I dont want to remove incase the battery goes flat. No other brand of locks available which are 'harder' to tamper with?

combination padlocks Laughing

I've always thought that - If the NRMA can get in, then thieves can get in as well.

best way is to remove all locks, metal plate welded in door beams to prevent anything 'hooking' up, and best to have clublock, alarm, immobilised, and have nothing visible inside.

My security project is underway....i need some guinea pig thieves to test it out Twisted Evil

doesent take much to brick through window and pop hood and unhook and smash alarm siren(unless it has battery backup)

the money you people are going to spend on welding and paiting you might as well go for one of those GPRS alarms where they can track its evey move via satellite and turn the freaking thing off too.

you can even get them to shut the car down when the driver seat belt is unbuckled while the car is still on. it gets annoying at first but you get yused to it and learn not to do it. its for hijacking purposes.

now thats if they are going to steal the thing but as for breaking in. GIVE IT UP GUYS!!!!!!! your gonna weld locks, get central locking and theres still going to be a window!!!!!!

ever got the good old spark plug out? barely makes a noise and with any material covering the glass then you hear NOTHING. just a spark plug and a shirt and your windows will be smashed and no one inthe worl will hear a thing.

also if you got tints then its even better for the thief cause all the broken glass stays together and doesnt go everywhere. whcih means they just have one piece to remove and throw instead of thousands of small pieces of glass everywhere!!!

you can do your best to get a good alarm and all the sensors in the world BUT if they WANT your car then they will HAVE your car. it sucks i knw but there really is little you can do

GO GPRS... AWSOME STUFF... WELL WORTH THE MONEY IF YOUR KEEPING YOUR BEAST FOREVER

its bout $1k install and like $300 a year, this was over a year ago but i think its cheaper now

yep but there are a couple companies that provide the service.

there is also another new car alarm, cost $1300 to install and this alarm calls 5 preset numbers when the car is broken into, ie, it will call your mobile and if no answers then it calls your home, stc stc untill answered.

once answered from your tone phone you can send it comnmands on what to do, ie, turn off, lock doors, etc. the only thing with this car alarm is that you need to buy either a prepaid or contract sim to put it in the alarm. with the prepaid once credit runs out you put the sim in your phone, recharge it and then plce back in alarm.

this alarm also features speaker and microphone capabilities, ie you can hear what they say insid and you can even speak to them Laughing they would definately freak out.

the only thing with this alarm that i can see at this stage is that unlike quicktrak you cannot know exactly where your car is at any given time but you can get the mobile phone company that your with to triangulate where the call from the alarm came fron and get a general idea of where the car is. basically like a mobile as long as it is on they can triangulate where it is by sending it signals and determining where the response comes from.

also with quicktrak you have australia wide coverage but with this alarm you only have mobile coverage. so if they take yor car completely underground and there is no signal then it cant be tracked/triangulated

LOL.....all the pros and cons aye

I think the smartest way of security, would be a kick ass alarm, with tracking functions and strategic preventions/deterence for theives to even think about breaking in. But with all the welding and other security measures, these are just small things that WILL deter a thief - cuz not every thief favours a broken window entry (prolly their last resort) So to be smart is to eliminate ANY silent entry, where the alarm will be the last thing that'll scare em off.

Mine was broken into and the stereo half stolen, half broken. The stupid assholes just put a small screwdriver in both passenger and drivers side doors, and wrenched them around destroying both locking mechanisms and denting the surrounding panel. They then stole the face to my stereo and smashed it in an attempt to rip it out rather then unscrew it, and stole my rear parcel shelf with my 6x9's in it.
However now I have the ultimate break in proof car, neither door locks work and I get in through the boot. So in order for someone to break into my car they have to fix it first Rolling Eyes
