i'm not positive, but the gearbox in you celica is a w58. guy on here has a 2jz with a w58, and he broke it several times. the box you need is an r154, but there expensive. good luck, your gonna need it. oh, i'm pretty sure the r154 won't fit in the tranny tunnel without massaging the tunnel first! there chunky!!! Very Happy

A W58 will be just fine behind a 1JZ if you treat it nice. I'm the guy who broke "several" W58's behind a 2JZ, (actually was just one, the other one was a W57), but a 2JZ has a lot more torque than a 1JZ and I was far from nice with it!

The W58 will bolt up to a 1JZ but you need a JZ bellhousing first, which unfortunately aren't that easy to find. Keep an eye on the forsale section, or if you get desperate you can buy them new from Toyota (ask BlackSupra about this, he bought a new one).

Your question has already been answered, but since your comprehension skills are apparently sub-par, I'll re-iterate for you.

1. The transmission in your Celica is a W57/58, NOT a W50.
2. W58 transmissions were installed behind JZ engines from the factory (non-turbo versions that is).
3. You will need a JZ -> W58 bellhousing to make this work.
4. Lots of people have done this before, which you would know already if you'd done some research.

King of Zamunda, Yes, it will "bolt up", but will it fit the recipient vehicle? Time for a tape measure, a scrap of paper and writing implement.

Markings on bell housing, " xJ - W5x ". Which really means, any "J" series engine to W55/W57/W58.

regards Chuck.

bender, just by some chance that your car does have a W50 in it, which i would not know how, you would not want to run it on a 1jz, you would prob most likely blow the box reversing out the driveway. Check your vehicle id tag, look under the
trans/axel: section and it should tell you what box you have W5x.
