Not sure if this should be here or in General. But....

I'm after information on the 16R engine.
after searching I know it is a 1800cc engine similar to the 18r built between 73-75, and ended up in cars like

Corona - RT102 - RT108 - RT112 - RT117
Carina (Celica) - RA10 - RA16

and these as well
Mark II 1800
RX11 - RX17 - RX21 - RX27 - RX37
RH31 - RH40 - RH41 (hiace possibly?)

I'd like to find out what the chances are of finding one of these engines in Aust. and what the piston stroke is.

Anyone?

I suspect you're going to have to do a search on a European forum.
There is the Finnish Crown and Corona Club that has a forum. It is mostly in Finnish, but I'm sure if you ask politely, they may answer back in English.

I need the rods, or to find a similar rod to the 16r for my engine. If I can't find them it's going to put a little dampner on my engine conversion plans. Sad

I'll suss that out tommorrow GT thanks.

Also found that some Forklifts may use that engine as well Confused

The only 16R I have seen so far was in an RA23 (probably swapped in there sometime).

To look at, you would swear it was just an 18R.

This is a page from the ACL catalogue.

*Edit* My bad, the stroke changed not the bore.

Sorry guys.

From what I have found the piston diameter is the same as the 18r, so the crank, rods would be different???

Looking at that page I get the bore as being identical and the stroke being shorter in the 16R.

So what would the chances be of Toyota building an engine that has different rods than any other engine and the engine was only built for about 3-4 years? there must be another engine with similar bottom end surely?

Re: Stroked 18R (Was 16r specs) Thu, 29 July 2004 04:57 Go to previous messageGo to next message
Ok change of subject....

I'm looking at the possibility that the 18R-GEU I have may be already stroked (I really have no Idea without pulling it apart.)
And if It isn't, I'm going to.

Looking at peoples previous attempts the magic ingredients appear to be 22r-e pistons, 16r rods, 20r Crank with machine work to fit the 18r block. this gives a CR of about 7.

Not having any luck tracking down a set of 16r rods in Australia (yet) before I look O/S is there another option on the rods that will give the 2.4 lt and a comp ratio of between 7 and 8.5 ?

I've researched tryed and true methods but looking outside that I'm a little lost when it comes to what rod/crank/piston can be interchanged and what the theoretical results would be.

You don't need to pull it apart to get the stroke.
Pull one of the sparkplugs, get a plastic rod (or even a straw), turn the engine over by hand to find TDC, mark the straw, then find BDC and mark the straw. Measure the difference and you have your stroke. Always best to know what you're starting with before you worry about changing it.

Yes I'm waiting for the weekend when I can get to the engine to look at it.

If it is standard stroke the question still stands.
